This pharmacological effect requires nicotinic acid doses that are much higher than those provided by a normal diet. Mediates nicotinic acid-induced apoptosis in mature neutrophils. Receptor activation by nicotinic acid results in reduced cAMP levels which may affect activity of cAMP-dependent protein kinase A and phosphorylation of target proteins, leading to neutrophil apoptosis. The rank order of potency for the displacement of nicotinic acid binding is 5- methyl pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid = pyridine-3-acetic acid > acifran > 5-methyl nicotinic acid = acipimox >> nicotinuric acid = nicotinamide. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17932499}. |7tm 1| |nicotinic acid receptor activity| |positive regulation of adiponectin secretion| |neutrophil apoptotic process| |positive regulation of neutrophil apoptotic process| |myeloid cell apoptotic process| |regulation of adiponectin secretion| |inflammatory cell apoptotic process| |regulation of neutrophil apoptotic process| |positive regulation of myeloid cell apoptotic process| |neutrophil homeostasis| |negative regulation of lipid catabolic process| |leukocyte apoptotic process| |positive regulation of leukocyte apoptotic process| |regulation of myeloid cell apoptotic process| |regulation of endocrine process| |regulation of lipid catabolic process| |leukocyte homeostasis| |negative regulation of lipid metabolic process| |regulation of leukocyte apoptotic process| |myeloid cell homeostasis| |positive regulation of hormone secretion| |homeostasis of number of cells| |regulation of hormone secretion| |positive regulation of protein secretion| |positive regulation of peptide secretion| |negative regulation of catabolic process| |regulation of lipid metabolic process| |positive regulation of secretion by cell| |positive regulation of protein transport| |positive regulation of secretion| |positive regulation of establishment of protein localization| |regulation of protein secretion| |regulation of peptide secretion| |regulation of hormone levels| |cell junction| |regulation of system process| |positive regulation of apoptotic process| |positive regulation of programmed cell death| |positive regulation of cell death| |regulation of protein transport| |regulation of peptide transport| |regulation of establishment of protein localization| |regulation of secretion by cell| |regulation of secretion| |apoptotic process| |positive regulation of transport| |regulation of catabolic process| |regulation of protein localization| |programmed cell death| |cell death| |positive regulation of immune system process| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |regulation of apoptotic process| |regulation of programmed cell death| |homeostatic process| |regulation of immune system process| |regulation of cell death| |positive regulation of multicellular organismal process| |positive regulation of cell communication| |positive regulation of signaling| |regulation of transport| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp466|Cannabidiol 20μM R08 exp466]]|1.98| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
