The mouse ortholog of this gene is regulated by Notch signaling. The protein functions as a transcriptional repressor, and is implicated in correct patterning of the axial skeleton. A mutation in this gene has been shown to result in spondylocostal dysostosis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]. * **UniProt Summary**: Transcriptional repressor. Represses transcription from both N box- and E box-containing promoters. May with HES1, cooperatively regulate somite formation in the presomitic mesoderm (PSM). May function as a segmentation clock, which is essential for coordinated somite segmentation (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}. |HLH| |post-anal tail morphogenesis| |somitogenesis| |somite development| |segmentation| |mesoderm development| |Notch signaling pathway| |protein dimerization activity| |anterior/posterior pattern specification| |DNA-binding transcription repressor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |rhythmic process| |RNA polymerase II regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding| |regionalization| |transcription factor binding| |pattern specification process| |skeletal system development| |chordate embryonic development| |embryo development ending in birth or egg hatching| |regulation of neurogenesis| |negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II| |anatomical structure formation involved in morphogenesis| |regulation of nervous system development| |regulation of cell development| |embryo development| |epithelium development| |negative regulation of transcription, DNA-templated| |negative regulation of nucleic acid-templated transcription| |negative regulation of RNA biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of RNA metabolic process| |negative regulation of cellular macromolecule biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |DNA binding| |negative regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |generation of neurons| |negative regulation of biosynthetic process| |DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |neurogenesis| |negative regulation of gene expression| |tissue development| |regulation of cell differentiation| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found.
