The expression of this gene in induced by estrogen in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer cells, and this protein also functions as a chaperone in association with Bag3, a stimulator of macroautophagy. Thus, this gene appears to be involved in regulation of cell proliferation, apoptosis, and carcinogenesis, and mutations in this gene have been associated with different neuromuscular diseases, including Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Displays temperature-dependent chaperone activity. |HSP20| |positive regulation of aggrephagy| |regulation of aggrephagy| |chaperone complex| |positive regulation of macroautophagy| |regulation of cellular response to heat| |intracellular| |positive regulation of autophagy| |cellular response to unfolded protein| |cellular response to topologically incorrect protein| |response to unfolded protein| |regulation of macroautophagy| |response to topologically incorrect protein| |protein kinase activity| |regulation of autophagy| |positive regulation of cellular catabolic process| |positive regulation of catabolic process| |regulation of cellular response to stress| |regulation of cellular catabolic process| |protein homodimerization activity| |protein phosphorylation| |regulation of catabolic process| |identical protein binding| |phosphorylation| |regulation of response to stress| |cellular response to stress| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp53|Suberoylanilide-Hydroxamic-Acid 0.02μM R01 exp53]]|1.96| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
