Serves as receptor for nuclear localization signals (NLS) in cargo substrates. Is thought to mediate docking of the importin/substrate complex to the nuclear pore complex (NPC) through binding to nucleoporin and the complex is subsequently translocated through the pore by an energy requiring, Ran- dependent mechanism. At the nucleoplasmic side of the NPC, Ran binds to the importin, the importin/substrate complex dissociates and importin is re-exported from the nucleus to the cytoplasm where GTP hydrolysis releases Ran. The directionality of nuclear import is thought to be conferred by an asymmetric distribution of the GTP- and GDP-bound forms of Ran between the cytoplasm and nucleus (By similarity). Mediates the nuclear import of RPS3A. In vitro, mediates the nuclear import of human cytomegalovirus UL84 by recognizing a non-classical NLS. {ECO:0000250, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11823430}. |IBN N| |DNA replication-dependent nucleosome assembly| |DNA replication-dependent nucleosome organization| |nuclear import signal receptor activity| |nuclear localization sequence binding| |Ran GTPase binding| |DNA replication-independent nucleosome assembly| |DNA replication-independent nucleosome organization| |protein import into nucleus| |import into nucleus| |nucleosome assembly| |chromatin assembly| |protein import| |chromatin assembly or disassembly| |nucleosome organization| |protein localization to nucleus| |DNA packaging| |protein-DNA complex assembly| |nuclear chromatin| |protein-DNA complex subunit organization| |nucleocytoplasmic transport| |nuclear transport| |DNA conformation change| |establishment of protein localization to organelle| |protein-containing complex| |chromatin organization| |protein localization to organelle| |cellular protein-containing complex assembly| |intracellular protein transport| |chromosome organization| |protein transport| |intracellular transport| |peptide transport| |protein-containing complex assembly| |amide transport| |cellular protein localization| |cellular macromolecule localization| |establishment of protein localization| |establishment of localization in cell| |nitrogen compound transport| |protein-containing complex subunit organization| |membrane| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp515|PU-H71 1μM R08 exp515]]|-1.73| |[[:results:exp47|Lapatinib 5μM R01 exp47]]|1.7| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
