Acting autonomously, is thought to serve itself as receptor for nuclear localization signals (NLS) and to promote translocation of import substrates through the nuclear pore complex (NPC) by an energy requiring, Ran-dependent mechanism. At the nucleoplasmic side of the NPC, Ran binds to importin, the importin/substrate complex dissociates and importin is re-exported from the nucleus to the cytoplasm where GTP hydrolysis releases Ran. The directionality of nuclear import is thought to be conferred by an asymmetric distribution of the GTP- and GDP-bound forms of Ran between the cytoplasm and nucleus. In vitro mediates the nuclear import of SRP19. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11682607, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9214382}. |IBN N| |Cse1| |Ran GTPase binding| |regulation of gene silencing by miRNA| |regulation of gene silencing by RNA| |regulation of posttranscriptional gene silencing| |protein import into nucleus| |import into nucleus| |regulation of gene silencing| |protein import| |protein localization to nucleus| |nuclear envelope| |nucleocytoplasmic transport| |nuclear transport| |establishment of protein localization to organelle| |protein localization to organelle| |intracellular protein transport| |protein transport| |intracellular transport| |peptide transport| |amide transport| |cellular protein localization| |cellular macromolecule localization| |establishment of protein localization| |establishment of localization in cell| |nitrogen compound transport| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |Bortezomib 0.05μM R00 exp7|-1.7| |TRAIL 50ng/ml R00 exp36|1.7| |TRAIL 5ng/ml R00 exp35|1.72| |LY2090314 0.003μM R08 exp499|1.74| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
