Glycoprotein hormones are heterodimers consisting of a common alpha subunit and an unique beta subunit which confers biological specificity. LH is expressed in the pituitary gland and promotes spermatogenesis and ovulation by stimulating the testes and ovaries to synthesize steroids. The genes for the beta chains of chorionic gonadotropin and for luteinizing hormone are contiguous on chromosome 19q13.3. Mutations in this gene are associated with hypogonadism which is characterized by infertility and pseudohermaphroditism. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Promotes spermatogenesis and ovulation by stimulating the testes and ovaries to synthesize steroids. |Cys knot| |progesterone biosynthetic process| |progesterone metabolic process| |C21-steroid hormone biosynthetic process| |C21-steroid hormone metabolic process| |ketone biosynthetic process| |peptide hormone processing| |steroid hormone biosynthetic process| |hormone biosynthetic process| |cellular ketone metabolic process| |hormone activity| |Golgi lumen| |cellular hormone metabolic process| |steroid biosynthetic process| |male gonad development| |development of primary male sexual characteristics| |male sex differentiation| |protein processing| |hormone-mediated signaling pathway| |hormone metabolic process| |gonad development| |development of primary sexual characteristics| |protein maturation| |steroid metabolic process| |sex differentiation| |signaling receptor binding| |reproductive structure development| |reproductive system development| |drug metabolic process| |peptide metabolic process| |regulation of hormone levels| |lipid biosynthetic process| |small molecule biosynthetic process| |cellular response to hormone stimulus| |developmental process involved in reproduction| |cellular amide metabolic process| |response to hormone| |cell-cell signaling| |lipid metabolic process| |cellular response to endogenous stimulus| |proteolysis| |organic cyclic compound biosynthetic process| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |reproductive process| |reproduction| |response to endogenous stimulus| |extracellular space| |small molecule metabolic process| |extracellular region| |gene expression| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp526|Sulforaphane 9μM R08 exp526 no dilution day6]]|1.81| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
