Mutation of this gene results in Brunner syndrome. This gene has also been associated with a variety of other psychiatric disorders, including antisocial behavior. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2012]. * **UniProt Summary**: Catalyzes the oxidative deamination of biogenic and xenobiotic amines and has important functions in the metabolism of neuroactive and vasoactive amines in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues. MAOA preferentially oxidizes biogenic amines such as 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), norepinephrine and epinephrine. |Pyr redox| |FAD binding 3| |DAO| |Amino oxidase| |primary amine oxidase activity| |dopamine catabolic process| |catecholamine catabolic process| |catechol-containing compound catabolic process| |phenol-containing compound catabolic process| |neurotransmitter catabolic process| |dopamine metabolic process| |catecholamine metabolic process| |catechol-containing compound metabolic process| |cellular biogenic amine metabolic process| |cellular amine metabolic process| |amine metabolic process| |organic hydroxy compound catabolic process| |phenol-containing compound metabolic process| |neurotransmitter metabolic process| |drug catabolic process| |mitochondrial outer membrane| |ammonium ion metabolic process| |regulation of neurotransmitter levels| |aromatic compound catabolic process| |organic hydroxy compound metabolic process| |organic cyclic compound catabolic process| |drug metabolic process| |cytokine-mediated signaling pathway| |oxidation-reduction process| |cellular response to cytokine stimulus| |organonitrogen compound catabolic process| |response to cytokine| |mitochondrion| |positive regulation of signal transduction| |organic substance catabolic process| |cellular catabolic process| |positive regulation of cell communication| |positive regulation of signaling| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |Dynasore 7μM R08 exp436|-2.19| |TGF-beta1 44ng/ml R08 exp528|-2.09| |Bortezomib 0.005μM R00 exp6|1.72| |5-Fluorouracil 2μM R00 exp1|1.74| |Oligomycin-A 2μM R00 exp25|1.93| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
