The encoded protein is activated in mitosis and, in turn, activates other family members during mitosis. This protein also mediates cellular processes that are essential for interphase progression. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016]. * **UniProt Summary**: Pleiotropic regulator of mitotic progression, participating in the control of spindle dynamics and chromosome separation. Phosphorylates different histones, myelin basic protein, beta-casein, and BICD2. Phosphorylates histone H3 on serine and threonine residues and beta-casein on serine residues. Important for G1/S transition and S phase progression. Phosphorylates NEK6 and NEK7 and stimulates their activity by releasing the autoinhibitory functions of Tyr-108 and Tyr-97 respectively. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12840024, ECO:0000269|PubMed:14660563, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19941817}. |Pkinase| |Pkinase Tyr| |RCC1| |mitotic nuclear envelope disassembly| |nuclear envelope disassembly| |membrane disassembly| |nuclear envelope organization| |nucleus organization| |protein serine/threonine kinase activity| |cellular component disassembly| |endomembrane system organization| |protein kinase binding| |centrosome| |cell division| |mitotic cell cycle process| |mitotic cell cycle| |membrane organization| |protein phosphorylation| |cell cycle process| |phosphorylation| |cell cycle| |ATP binding| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |GSK-J4 1μM R07 exp362|1.7| |Cholesterol 0.003 to 0.006 to 0.1μM on day2 then day6 R08 exp471|1.75| |Campthothecin 0.001μM R06 exp270|1.84| |Demecolcine 0.03μM R05 exp228|2.01| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
