A similar gene in rats encodes a protein that modulates glutamate signaling in the brain by regulating kainate receptor function. Expression of this gene may be a biomarker for proliferating infantile hemangiomas. A pseudogene of this gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 8. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Accessory subunit of neuronal kainate-sensitive glutamate receptors, GRIK2 and GRIK3. Increases kainate-receptor channel activity, slowing the decay kinetics of the receptors, without affecting their expression at the cell surface, and increasing the open probability of the receptor channels. Modulates the agonist sensitivity of kainate receptors. Slows the decay of kainate receptor-mediated excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs), thus directly influencing synaptic transmission (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}. |CUB| |Ldl recept a| |regulation of kainate selective glutamate receptor activity| |ionotropic glutamate receptor binding| |regulation of sodium ion transmembrane transporter activity| |regulation of potassium ion transmembrane transporter activity| |regulation of sodium ion transmembrane transport| |regulation of glutamate receptor signaling pathway| |regulation of neurotransmitter receptor activity| |regulation of potassium ion transmembrane transport| |regulation of sodium ion transport| |regulation of potassium ion transport| |regulation of cation channel activity| |regulation of signaling receptor activity| |postsynaptic density| |regulation of ion transmembrane transporter activity| |regulation of transmembrane transporter activity| |regulation of transporter activity| |regulation of cation transmembrane transport| |regulation of metal ion transport| |regulation of ion transmembrane transport| |regulation of transmembrane transport| |regulation of ion transport| |regulation of transport| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp16|DABN 2μM R00 exp16]]|1.74| |[[:results:exp116|AICAR 240μM R03 exp116]]|1.87| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
