Mediates calcium-dependent transcription activation by binding to E box-containing promoter. Critical factor essential for the repression of the genetic program for neuronal differentiation; prevents the formation of synaptic vesicle clustering at active zone to the presynaptic membrane in postmitotic neurons. Induces transcription of ZEB1, which in turn represses neuronal differentiation by down-regulating REST expression. Plays a role in the establishment and maturation of thalamocortical connections; involved in the segregation of thalamic afferents into distinct barrel domains within layer VI of the somatosensory cortex. Involved in the development of the cerebellar and hippocampal granular neurons, neurons in the basolateral nucleus of amygdala and the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. Associates with chromatin to the DPYSL3 E box-containing promoter (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}. |HLH| |Neuro bHLH| |negative regulation of synapse maturation| |positive regulation of synapse maturation| |positive regulation of synaptic plasticity| |cellular response to electrical stimulus| |regulation of synapse maturation| |negative regulation of synapse organization| |behavioral fear response| |behavioral defense response| |fear response| |response to electrical stimulus| |positive regulation of calcium-mediated signaling| |cerebellar cortex development| |E-box binding| |multicellular organismal response to stress| |associative learning| |cellular response to calcium ion| |regulation of calcium-mediated signaling| |cerebellum development| |metencephalon development| |learning| |hindbrain development| |response to calcium ion| |regulation of synaptic plasticity| |cellular response to metal ion| |regulation of synapse organization| |cellular response to inorganic substance| |regulation of synapse structure or activity| |transcription corepressor activity| |learning or memory| |positive regulation of DNA-binding transcription factor activity| |cognition| |negative regulation of nervous system development| |cellular response to abiotic stimulus| |cellular response to environmental stimulus| |positive regulation of neuron differentiation| |response to metal ion| |regulation of DNA-binding transcription factor activity| |modulation of chemical synaptic transmission| |regulation of trans-synaptic signaling| |DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |positive regulation of neurogenesis| |protein heterodimerization activity| |response to inorganic substance| |positive regulation of nervous system development| |positive regulation of cell development| |behavior| |regulation of neuron differentiation| |DNA-binding transcription factor activity| |protein ubiquitination| |negative regulation of cellular component organization| |brain development| |protein modification by small protein conjugation| |head development| |neuron development| |regulation of neurogenesis| |regulation of nervous system development| |regulation of cell development| |negative regulation of developmental process| |positive regulation of cell differentiation| |central nervous system development| |protein modification by small protein conjugation or removal| |neuron differentiation| |positive regulation of intracellular signal transduction| |response to abiotic stimulus| |negative regulation of multicellular organismal process| |positive regulation of cellular component organization| |positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II| |negative regulation of nucleic acid-templated transcription| |negative regulation of RNA biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of RNA metabolic process| |defense response| |positive regulation of developmental process| |nervous system process| |negative regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |negative regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |negative regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |generation of neurons| |positive regulation of transcription, DNA-templated| |negative regulation of biosynthetic process| |DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific| |neurogenesis| |positive regulation of nucleic acid-templated transcription| |positive regulation of RNA biosynthetic process| |cell development| |positive regulation of signal transduction| |positive regulation of RNA metabolic process| |positive regulation of multicellular organismal process| |positive regulation of molecular function| |regulation of cell differentiation| |positive regulation of cell communication| |positive regulation of signaling| |regulation of intracellular signal transduction| |positive regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |positive regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |system process| |positive regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of gene expression| |positive regulation of biosynthetic process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp155|UNC1999 2μM R03 exp155]]|1.78| |[[:results:exp46|HMS-I1 1μM R01 exp46]]|1.91| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
