Neurotensin is a secreted tridecapeptide, which is widely distributed throughout the central nervous system, and may function as a neurotransmitter or a neuromodulator. It may be involved in dopamine-associated pathophysiological events, in the maintenance of gut structure and function, and in the regulation of fat metabolism. Neurotensin also exhibits antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi. Tissue-specific processing may lead to the formation in some tissues of larger forms of neuromedin N and neurotensin. The large forms may represent more stable peptides that are also biologically active. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2014]. * **UniProt Summary**: Neurotensin may play an endocrine or paracrine role in the regulation of fat metabolism. It causes contraction of smooth muscle. |Pro-NT NN| |neuropeptide hormone activity| |axon terminus| |transport vesicle| |regulation of tube diameter| |regulation of blood vessel diameter| |regulation of tube size| |vascular process in circulatory system| |blood circulation| |circulatory system process| |regulation of anatomical structure size| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |extracellular region| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |Actinomycin-D 0.001μM R00 exp3|-1.89| |Tanespimycin 14μM R08 exp527|-1.78| |Lenalidomide 20μM R07 exp375|1.85| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
