It is thought to regulate actin polymerization in response to extracellular signals. There are two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Binds to actin and affects the structure of the cytoskeleton. At high concentrations, profilin prevents the polymerization of actin, whereas it enhances it at low concentrations. By binding to PIP2, it inhibits the formation of IP3 and DG. |Profilin| |negative regulation of ruffle assembly| |modification of postsynaptic actin cytoskeleton| |modification of postsynaptic structure| |modification of synaptic structure| |negative regulation of plasma membrane bounded cell projection assembly| |actin monomer binding| |regulation of ruffle assembly| |positive regulation of stress fiber assembly| |negative regulation of actin filament polymerization| |positive regulation of ATPase activity| |positive regulation of actin filament bundle assembly| |negative regulation of protein polymerization| |negative regulation of epithelial cell migration| |phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate binding| |regulation of synaptic vesicle exocytosis| |regulation of stress fiber assembly| |regulation of ATPase activity| |Schaffer collateral -
