The encoded protein contains multiple transmembrane domains, and cytoplasmic N- and C-termini. The protein may be an integral membrane protein involved in cell-cell/matrix interactions. This protein functions as a calcium-regulated nonselective cation channel. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]. * **UniProt Summary**: Pore-forming subunit of a ciliary calcium channel that controls calcium concentration within primary cilia without affecting cytoplasmic calcium concentration. Forms a heterodimer with PKD1L1 in primary cilia and forms a calcium-permeant ciliary channel that regulates sonic hedgehog/SHH signaling and GLI2 transcription. May act as a sour taste receptor by forming a calcium channel with PKD1L3 in gustatory cells; however, its contribution to sour taste perception is unclear in vivo and may be indirect. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10517637, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19812697, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23212381, ECO:0000269|PubMed:24336289}. |Ion trans| |PKD channel| |sour taste receptor activity| |detection of chemical stimulus involved in sensory perception of sour taste| |sensory perception of sour taste| |cation transmembrane transporter activity| |sodium channel activity| |cellular response to acidic pH| |calcium activated cation channel activity| |calcium-activated potassium channel activity| |response to water| |alpha-actinin binding| |cation channel activity| |cellular response to pH| |muscle alpha-actinin binding| |response to acidic pH| |calcium channel complex| |non-motile cilium| |response to pH| |detection of mechanical stimulus| |detection of chemical stimulus involved in sensory perception of taste| |calcium channel activity| |ciliary membrane| |sensory perception of taste| |smoothened signaling pathway| |cytoskeletal protein binding| |sodium ion transmembrane transport| |protein homotetramerization| |detection of external stimulus| |detection of abiotic stimulus| |protein tetramerization| |sodium ion transport| |potassium ion transmembrane transport| |potassium ion transport| |calcium ion transmembrane transport| |receptor complex| |response to mechanical stimulus| |calcium ion transport| |cytoplasmic vesicle| |divalent metal ion transport| |divalent inorganic cation transport| |cellular response to abiotic stimulus| |cellular response to environmental stimulus| |protein homooligomerization| |response to acid chemical| |monovalent inorganic cation transport| |detection of chemical stimulus involved in sensory perception| |protein complex oligomerization| |detection of chemical stimulus| |response to inorganic substance| |sensory perception of chemical stimulus| |detection of stimulus involved in sensory perception| |inorganic cation transmembrane transport| |cation transmembrane transport| |cell surface| |metal ion transport| |inorganic ion transmembrane transport| |intracellular membrane-bounded organelle| |detection of stimulus| |calcium ion binding| |cation transport| |ion transmembrane transport| |sensory perception| |endoplasmic reticulum| |identical protein binding| |response to abiotic stimulus| |transmembrane transport| |ion transport| |nervous system process| |integral component of plasma membrane| |response to oxygen-containing compound| |protein-containing complex assembly| |protein-containing complex subunit organization| |system process| |membrane| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp115|A-366 10μM R03 exp115]]|1.96| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
