The transcript initiated from the proximal promoter encodes the longer SCPx protein, and the transcript initiated from the distal promoter encodes the shorter SCP2 protein, with the 2 proteins sharing a common C-terminus. Evidence suggests that the SCPx protein is a peroxisome-associated thiolase that is involved in the oxidation of branched chain fatty acids, while the SCP2 protein is thought to be an intracellular lipid transfer protein. This gene is highly expressed in organs involved in lipid metabolism, and may play a role in Zellweger syndrome, in which cells are deficient in peroxisomes and have impaired bile acid synthesis. Alternative splicing of this gene produces multiple transcript variants, some encoding different isoforms.[provided by RefSeq, Aug 2010]. * **UniProt Summary**: N/A |SCP2| |Thiolase N| |Thiolase C| |propionyl-CoA C2-trimethyltridecanoyltransferase activity| |lipid hydroperoxide transport| |propanoyl-CoA C-acyltransferase activity| |oleic acid binding| |positive regulation of intracellular cholesterol transport| |positive regulation of intracellular lipid transport| |positive regulation of intracellular sterol transport| |long-chain fatty acyl-CoA binding| |regulation of intracellular sterol transport| |regulation of intracellular cholesterol transport| |regulation of intracellular lipid transport| |alpha-linolenic acid metabolic process| |fatty acid beta-oxidation using acyl-CoA oxidase| |fatty-acyl-CoA binding| |positive regulation of cholesterol transport| |positive regulation of sterol transport| |bile acid biosynthetic process| |bile acid metabolic process| |regulation of cholesterol transport| |regulation of sterol transport| |cholesterol binding| |peroxisomal matrix| |fatty acid beta-oxidation| |positive regulation of lipid transport| |protein localization to peroxisome| |protein targeting to peroxisome| |establishment of protein localization to peroxisome| |peroxisomal transport| |fatty acid oxidation| |lipid oxidation| |peroxisome organization| |positive regulation of lipid localization| |phospholipid transport| |fatty acid catabolic process| |unsaturated fatty acid metabolic process| |regulation of lipid transport| |peroxisome| |long-chain fatty acid metabolic process| |monocarboxylic acid catabolic process| |organophosphate ester transport| |steroid biosynthetic process| |regulation of lipid localization| |organic hydroxy compound biosynthetic process| |monocarboxylic acid biosynthetic process| |cellular lipid catabolic process| |lipid modification| |positive regulation of intracellular transport| |steroid metabolic process| |carboxylic acid catabolic process| |organic acid catabolic process| |lipid transport| |lipid catabolic process| |carboxylic acid biosynthetic process| |organic acid biosynthetic process| |lipid localization| |fatty acid metabolic process| |signaling receptor binding| |regulation of intracellular transport| |protein targeting| |establishment of protein localization to organelle| |small molecule catabolic process| |organic hydroxy compound metabolic process| |organic anion transport| |drug metabolic process| |monocarboxylic acid metabolic process| |lipid biosynthetic process| |anion transport| |small molecule biosynthetic process| |protein-containing complex| |intracellular membrane-bounded organelle| |protein localization to organelle| |carboxylic acid metabolic process| |regulation of cellular localization| |cellular lipid metabolic process| |oxidation-reduction process| |positive regulation of transport| |intracellular protein transport| |oxoacid metabolic process| |organic acid metabolic process| |lipid metabolic process| |mitochondrion| |organic cyclic compound biosynthetic process| |ion transport| |protein transport| |intracellular transport| |peptide transport| |amide transport| |cellular protein localization| |cellular macromolecule localization| |establishment of protein localization| |small molecule metabolic process| |organic substance catabolic process| |cellular catabolic process| |establishment of localization in cell| |nitrogen compound transport| |regulation of transport| |membrane| \\ === CRISPR Data === No hits were found.
