The encoded protein is one of two integral membrane proteins anchoring the complex to the matrix side of the mitochondrial inner membrane. Mutations in this gene are associated with the formation of tumors, including hereditary paraganglioma. Transmission of disease occurs almost exclusively through the paternal allele, suggesting that this locus may be maternally imprinted. There are pseudogenes for this gene on chromosomes 1, 2, 3, 7, and 18. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2013]. COMPLETENESS: complete on the 3' end. * **UniProt Summary**: Membrane-anchoring subunit of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) that is involved in complex II of the mitochondrial electron transport chain and is responsible for transferring electrons from succinate to ubiquinone (coenzyme Q). {ECO:0000250}. |CybS| |succinate dehydrogenase activity| |mitochondrial electron transport, succinate to ubiquinone| |succinate dehydrogenase (ubiquinone) activity| |mitochondrial respiratory chain complex II, succinate dehydrogenase complex (ubiquinone)| |mitochondrial envelope| |ubiquinone binding| |tricarboxylic acid cycle| |electron transfer activity| |aerobic respiration| |mitochondrial ATP synthesis coupled electron transport| |ATP synthesis coupled electron transport| |respiratory electron transport chain| |oxidative phosphorylation| |heme binding| |cellular respiration| |electron transport chain| |ATP metabolic process| |energy derivation by oxidation of organic compounds| |mitochondrial inner membrane| |generation of precursor metabolites and energy| |oxidation-reduction process| |mitochondrion| |phosphorylation| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp275|Citral 75μM R06 exp275]]|-1.77| ^Gene^Correlation^ |[[:human genes:h:hars|HARS]]|0.407| Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 286/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|1/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|9/28| |blood|20/28| |bone|5/26| |breast|19/33| |central nervous system|11/56| |cervix|2/4| |colorectal|6/17| |esophagus|3/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|6/16| |kidney|8/21| |liver|4/20| |lung|24/75| |lymphocyte|10/16| |ovary|5/26| |pancreas|11/24| |peripheral nervous system|8/16| |plasma cell|9/15| |prostate|1/1| |skin|13/24| |soft tissue|4/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|4/22| |urinary tract|4/29| |uterus|1/5| == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **Essentiality Rank**: 2142 * **Expression level (log2 read counts)**: 5.84 {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}}
