It is predominantly expressed in the liver and secreted in plasma. It inhibits the activity of coagulation factors Xa and XIa in the presence of protein Z, calcium and phospholipid. Mutations in this gene are associated with venous thrombosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, May 2010]. * **UniProt Summary**: Inhibits activity of the coagulation protease factor Xa in the presence of PROZ, calcium and phospholipids. Also inhibits factor XIa in the absence of cofactors. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11049983}. |Serpin| |regulation of acrosome reaction| |regulation of fertilization| |serine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity| |regulation of reproductive process| |heparin binding| |negative regulation of endopeptidase activity| |negative regulation of peptidase activity| |blood coagulation| |coagulation| |hemostasis| |endoplasmic reticulum lumen| |negative regulation of proteolysis| |post-translational protein modification| |regulation of endopeptidase activity| |regulation of peptidase activity| |negative regulation of hydrolase activity| |wound healing| |regulation of body fluid levels| |response to wounding| |regulation of proteolysis| |regulation of multi-organism process| |negative regulation of catalytic activity| |negative regulation of cellular protein metabolic process| |negative regulation of protein metabolic process| |negative regulation of molecular function| |regulation of hydrolase activity| |extracellular space| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |BAY-598 4μM R05 exp220|-2.16| |A-769662 20μM R07 exp331|-1.96| |Nicotinamide 2000μM R01 exp50|-1.95| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
