The encoded protein is an organic cation transporter and plasma integral membrane protein containing eleven putative transmembrane domains as well as a nucleotide-binding site motif. Transport by this protein is at least partially ATP-dependent. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Sodium-ion dependent, low affinity carnitine transporter. Probably transports one sodium ion with one molecule of carnitine. Also transports organic cations such as tetraethylammonium (TEA) without the involvement of sodium. Relative uptake activity ratio of carnitine to TEA is 1.78. A key substrate of this transporter seems to be ergothioneine (ET). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10215651, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15795384}. |MFS 1| |Sugar tr| |cation:cation antiporter activity| |secondary active organic cation transmembrane transporter activity| |carnitine transmembrane transport| |carnitine transmembrane transporter activity| |quaternary ammonium group transmembrane transporter activity| |carnitine transport| |amino-acid betaine transport| |quaternary ammonium group transport| |carnitine metabolic process| |ammonium transmembrane transport| |amino-acid betaine metabolic process| |modified amino acid transport| |organic cation transport| |symporter activity| |ammonium transport| |nucleotide binding| |body fluid secretion| |triglyceride metabolic process| |PDZ domain binding| |acylglycerol metabolic process| |neutral lipid metabolic process| |sodium ion transport| |ammonium ion metabolic process| |cellular modified amino acid metabolic process| |apical plasma membrane| |glycerolipid metabolic process| |monovalent inorganic cation transport| |regulation of body fluid levels| |cation transmembrane transport| |metal ion transport| |cation transport| |ion transmembrane transport| |cellular lipid metabolic process| |secretion| |lipid metabolic process| |mitochondrion| |transmembrane transport| |ion transport| |integral component of plasma membrane| |ATP binding| |nitrogen compound transport| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |Docosahexaenoic-acid 50μM R07 exp356|-2.48| |Dorsomorphin 5μM R07 exp357|-1.77| |Combretastatin A4 0.002 to 0.003μM day4 R04 exp179|-1.74| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
