The biologic effects of somatostatin are probably mediated by a family of G protein-coupled receptors that are expressed in a tissue-specific manner. SSTR2 is a member of the superfamily of receptors having seven transmembrane segments and is expressed in highest levels in cerebrum and kidney. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **UniProt Summary**: Receptor for somatostatin-14 and -28. This receptor is coupled via pertussis toxin sensitive G proteins to inhibition of adenylyl cyclase. In addition it stimulates phosphotyrosine phosphatase and PLC via pertussis toxin insensitive as well as sensitive G proteins. Inhibits calcium entry by suppressing voltage-dependent calcium channels. Acts as the functionally dominant somatostatin receptor in pancreatic alpha- and beta-cells where it mediates the inhibitory effect of somatostatin-14 on hormone secretion. Inhibits cell growth through enhancement of MAPK1 and MAPK2 phosphorylation and subsequent up-regulation of CDKN1B. Stimulates neuronal migration and axon outgrowth and may participate in neuron development and maturation during brain development. Mediates negative regulation of insulin receptor signaling through PTPN6. Inactivates SSTR3 receptor function following heterodimerization. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15231824, ECO:0000269|PubMed:18653781, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19434240, ECO:0000269|PubMed:22495673, ECO:0000269|PubMed:22932785}. |7TM GPCR Srv| |7tm 1| |7TM GPCR Srx| |7TM GPCR Srsx| |somatostatin signaling pathway| |somatostatin receptor activity| |somatostatin receptor signaling pathway| |peristalsis| |phasic smooth muscle contraction| |neuropeptide binding| |cellular response to estradiol stimulus| |peptide binding| |smooth muscle contraction| |cellular response to glucocorticoid stimulus| |cellular response to corticosteroid stimulus| |adenylate cyclase-inhibiting G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |PDZ domain binding| |cerebellum development| |neuropeptide signaling pathway| |metencephalon development| |response to estradiol| |response to glucocorticoid| |hindbrain development| |regulation of muscle contraction| |response to corticosteroid| |hormone-mediated signaling pathway| |cellular response to steroid hormone stimulus| |response to starvation| |adenylate cyclase-modulating G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |regulation of muscle system process| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway, coupled to cyclic nucleotide second messenger| |muscle contraction| |muscle system process| |response to steroid hormone| |forebrain development| |response to nutrient levels| |cellular response to lipid| |response to extracellular stimulus| |cellular response to organic cyclic compound| |spermatogenesis| |male gamete generation| |regulation of system process| |cellular response to hormone stimulus| |negative regulation of cell population proliferation| |gamete generation| |G protein-coupled receptor activity| |brain development| |head development| |multicellular organismal reproductive process| |sexual reproduction| |multicellular organism reproduction| |response to lipid| |response to hormone| |response to organic cyclic compound| |central nervous system development| |multi-organism reproductive process| |cellular response to oxygen-containing compound| |cellular response to endogenous stimulus| |G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway| |integral component of plasma membrane| |reproductive process| |reproduction| |response to endogenous stimulus| |response to oxygen-containing compound| |regulation of cell population proliferation| |system process| \\ === CRISPR Data === ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp409|THZ531 0.11μM R07 exp409]]|1.76| No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics.
