Alpha-fetoprotein expression in adults is often associated with hepatoma or teratoma. However, hereditary persistance of alpha-fetoprotein may also be found in individuals with no obvious pathology. The protein is thought to be the fetal counterpart of serum albumin, and the alpha-fetoprotein and albumin genes are present in tandem in the same transcriptional orientation on chromosome 4. Alpha-fetoprotein is found in monomeric as well as dimeric and trimeric forms, and binds copper, nickel, fatty acids and bilirubin. The level of alpha-fetoprotein in amniotic fluid is used to measure renal loss of protein to screen for spina bifida and anencephaly. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Binds copper, nickel, and fatty acids as well as, and bilirubin less well than, serum albumin. Only a small percentage (less than 2%) of the human AFP shows estrogen-binding properties. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |Serum albumin| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |ovulation from ovarian follicle| |progesterone metabolic process| |ovulation| |C21-steroid hormone metabolic process| |ovulation cycle process| |SMAD protein signal transduction| |ovulation cycle| |cellular ketone metabolic process| |female gonad development| |development of primary female sexual characteristics| |female sex differentiation| |cellular hormone metabolic process| |female gamete generation| |transmembrane receptor protein serine/threonine kinase signaling pathway| |hormone metabolic process| |gonad development| |development of primary sexual characteristics| |steroid metabolic process| |sex differentiation| |rhythmic process| |endoplasmic reticulum lumen| |post-translational protein modification| |reproductive structure development| |reproductive system development| |drug metabolic process| |regulation of hormone levels| |developmental process involved in reproduction| |gamete generation| |enzyme linked receptor protein signaling pathway| |multicellular organismal reproductive process| |sexual reproduction| |multicellular organism reproduction| |multi-organism reproductive process| |lipid metabolic process| |reproductive process| |reproduction| |extracellular space| |small molecule metabolic process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |GSK343 3μM R03 exp124|1.73| |MKC9989 10μM R03 exp133|2.04| |Clomiphene 4.4μM R02 exp68|2.42| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 18519 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: -7.68 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='AFP Expression in NALM6 Cells: -7.68'> </modal> Last modified: 2025/12/10 20:19by 127.0.0.1
