Pleiotropic effects of constitutive expression of the mouse gene include adult-onset obesity, increased tumor susceptibility, and premature infertility. This gene is highly similar to the mouse gene and encodes a secreted protein that may (1) affect the quality of hair pigmentation, (2) act as a pharmacological antagonist of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, (3) play a role in neuroendocrine aspects of melanocortin action, and (4) have a functional role in regulating lipid metabolism in adipocytes. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Involved in the regulation of melanogenesis. The binding of ASP to MC1R precludes alpha-MSH initiated signaling and thus blocks production of cAMP, leading to a down-regulation of eumelanogenesis (brown/black pigment) and thus increasing synthesis of pheomelanin (yellow/red pigment). In higher primates, agouti may affect the quality of hair pigmentation rather than its pattern of deposition. Could well play a role in neuroendocrine aspects of melanocortin action. May have some functional role in regulating the lipid metabolism with adipocytes. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |Agouti| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |regulation of molecular function, epigenetic| |type 4 melanocortin receptor binding| |type 3 melanocortin receptor binding| |positive regulation of melanin biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of secondary metabolite biosynthetic process| |regulation of melanin biosynthetic process| |adult feeding behavior| |regulation of secondary metabolite biosynthetic process| |regulation of secondary metabolic process| |melanin biosynthetic process| |melanin metabolic process| |secondary metabolite biosynthetic process| |melanosome transport| |establishment of melanosome localization| |pigment granule transport| |establishment of pigment granule localization| |genetic imprinting| |melanosome localization| |melanosome organization| |pigment granule organization| |pigment granule localization| |phenol-containing compound biosynthetic process| |cellular pigmentation| |pigment biosynthetic process| |secondary metabolic process| |pigment metabolic process| |cell| |phenol-containing compound metabolic process| |feeding behavior| |pigmentation| |adult behavior| |hormone-mediated signaling pathway| |establishment of vesicle localization| |vesicle localization| |organic hydroxy compound biosynthetic process| |vesicle organization| |signaling receptor binding| |establishment of organelle localization| |generation of precursor metabolites and energy| |organic hydroxy compound metabolic process| |behavior| |organelle localization| |cellular response to hormone stimulus| |response to hormone| |cell-cell signaling| |aromatic compound biosynthetic process| |cellular response to endogenous stimulus| |organic cyclic compound biosynthetic process| |response to endogenous stimulus| |extracellular space| |establishment of localization in cell| |positive regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of biosynthetic process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp99|NFN1 0.4μM R03 exp99]]|1.78| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 5904 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: -0.67 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='ASIP Expression in NALM6 Cells: -0.67'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2025/12/10 20:19by 127.0.0.1
