This enzyme produces wax esters by the esterification of long chain (or wax) alcohols with acyl-CoA-derived fatty acids. It functions in lipid metabolism in the skin, mostly in undifferentiated peripheral sebocytes. This enzyme may also have acyl-CoA:retinol acyltransferase activities, where it catalyzes the synthesis of diacylglycerols and retinyl esters. [provided by RefSeq, May 2010]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Acyltransferase that predominantly esterify long chain (wax) alcohols with acyl-CoA-derived fatty acids to produce wax esters. Wax esters are enriched in sebum, suggesting that it plays a central role in lipid metabolism in skin. Has no activity using decyl alcohol and significantly prefers the C16 and C18 alcohols. May also have 2-acylglycerol O-acyltransferase (MGAT) and acyl- CoA:retinol acyltransferase (ARAT) activities, to catalyze the synthesis of diacylglycerols and retinyl esters; however this activity is unclear in vivo. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15220349, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15671038, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16106050}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |DAGAT| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |long-chain-alcohol O-fatty-acyltransferase activity| |arachidoyl-CoA:1-dodecanol O-acyltransferase activity| |retinol O-fatty-acyltransferase activity| |wax metabolic process| |wax biosynthetic process| |2-acylglycerol O-acyltransferase activity| |acylglycerol acyl-chain remodeling| |retinol metabolic process| |primary alcohol metabolic process| |fatty acid derivative biosynthetic process| |acylglycerol metabolic process| |neutral lipid metabolic process| |retinoid metabolic process| |diterpenoid metabolic process| |terpenoid metabolic process| |cellular hormone metabolic process| |isoprenoid metabolic process| |fatty acid derivative metabolic process| |hormone metabolic process| |alcohol metabolic process| |glycerolipid metabolic process| |organic hydroxy compound metabolic process| |regulation of hormone levels| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |cellular lipid metabolic process| |lipid metabolic process| |small molecule metabolic process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp52|Ribavirin 10μM R01 exp52]]|2.66| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/694 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/26| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/30| |central nervous system|0/49| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/11| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/14| |kidney|0/18| |liver|0/19| |lung|0/72| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/25| |pancreas|0/22| |peripheral nervous system|0/15| |plasma cell|0/12| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/20| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/28| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 18969 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: -3.59 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='AWAT2 Expression in NALM6 Cells: -3.59'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2025/12/10 20:19by 127.0.0.1
