The proteins of this family form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- and pro-apoptotic regulators that are involved in a wide variety of cellular activities such as embryonic development, homeostasis and tumorigenesis. The protein encoded by this gene is able to reduce the release of pro-apoptotic cytochrome c from mitochondria and block caspase activation. This gene is a direct transcription target of NF-kappa B in response to inflammatory mediators, and is up-regulated by different extracellular signals, such as granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), CD40, phorbol ester and inflammatory cytokine TNF and IL-1, which suggests a cytoprotective function that is essential for lymphocyte activation as well as cell survival. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Retards apoptosis induced by IL-3 deprivation. May function in the response of hemopoietic cells to external signals and in maintaining endothelial survival during infection (By similarity). Can inhibit apoptosis induced by serum starvation in the mammary epithelial cell line HC11 (By similarity). {ECO:0000250, ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q07440}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |Bcl-2| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |BH domain binding| |signal transduction in absence of ligand| |extrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway in absence of ligand| |intrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway in response to DNA damage| |negative regulation of intrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway| |extrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway| |cerebral cortex development| |intrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway| |regulation of intrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway| |mitochondrial outer membrane| |pallium development| |negative regulation of apoptotic signaling pathway| |telencephalon development| |aging| |apoptotic signaling pathway| |forebrain development| |regulation of apoptotic signaling pathway| |protein heterodimerization activity| |negative regulation of intracellular signal transduction| |brain development| |cellular response to DNA damage stimulus| |head development| |protein homodimerization activity| |negative regulation of apoptotic process| |negative regulation of programmed cell death| |apoptotic process| |central nervous system development| |negative regulation of cell death| |programmed cell death| |cell death| |negative regulation of signal transduction| |negative regulation of cell communication| |negative regulation of signaling| |regulation of apoptotic process| |regulation of programmed cell death| |negative regulation of response to stimulus| |regulation of cell death| |intracellular signal transduction| |cellular response to stress| |regulation of intracellular signal transduction| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |Tenofovir 10μM R07 exp405|-1.74| |Combretastatin A4 0.002 to 0.003μM day4 R04 exp179|1.72| |A-196 10μM R03 exp114|2.08| |RS-1 10μM R08 exp519|2.1| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 1/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|1/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 9782 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: -3.51 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='BCL2A1 Expression in NALM6 Cells: -3.51'> </modal> Last modified: 2025/12/10 20:19by 127.0.0.1
