The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This protein localizes to the mitochondrial inner membrane and catalyzes the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone, the first and rate-limiting step in the synthesis of the steroid hormones. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. The cellular location of the smaller isoform is unclear since it lacks the mitochondrial-targeting transit peptide. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Catalyzes the side-chain cleavage reaction of cholesterol to pregnenolone, the precursor of most steroid hormones. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21636783}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |p450| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |cholesterol monooxygenase (side-chain-cleaving) activity| |cortisol metabolic process| |glucocorticoid biosynthetic process| |tertiary alcohol metabolic process| |vitamin D metabolic process| |C21-steroid hormone biosynthetic process| |glucocorticoid metabolic process| |C21-steroid hormone metabolic process| |fat-soluble vitamin metabolic process| |steroid hormone biosynthetic process| |hormone biosynthetic process| |cellular ketone metabolic process| |primary alcohol metabolic process| |cholesterol metabolic process| |cellular hormone metabolic process| |vitamin metabolic process| |steroid biosynthetic process| |secondary alcohol metabolic process| |iron ion binding| |sterol metabolic process| |heme binding| |hormone metabolic process| |steroid metabolic process| |cellular response to peptide hormone stimulus| |alcohol metabolic process| |cellular response to peptide| |mitochondrial matrix| |response to peptide hormone| |mitochondrial inner membrane| |organic hydroxy compound metabolic process| |response to peptide| |drug metabolic process| |regulation of hormone levels| |lipid biosynthetic process| |cellular response to organonitrogen compound| |cellular response to hormone stimulus| |cellular response to nitrogen compound| |response to hormone| |oxidation-reduction process| |response to organonitrogen compound| |cellular response to oxygen-containing compound| |response to nitrogen compound| |lipid metabolic process| |cellular response to endogenous stimulus| |mitochondrion| |organic cyclic compound biosynthetic process| |response to endogenous stimulus| |response to oxygen-containing compound| |small molecule metabolic process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp529|Thimerosal 0.85μM R08 exp529]]|1.72| |[[:results:exp243|S-trityl-L-cysteine 0.5μM R05 exp243]]|1.85| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 3432 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 3.9 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='CYP11A1 Expression in NALM6 Cells: 3.9'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2025/12/10 20:19by 127.0.0.1
