The ectodomain, consisting of several immunoglobulin-like domains and fibronectin-like repeats (type III), is linked via a single transmembrane sequence to a conserved cytoplasmic domain. This cell adhesion molecule plays an important role in nervous system development, including neuronal migration and differentiation. Mutations in the gene cause X-linked neurological syndromes known as CRASH (corpus callosum hypoplasia, retardation, aphasia, spastic paraplegia and hydrocephalus). Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants, some of which include an alternate exon that is considered to be specific to neurons. [provided by RefSeq, May 2013]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Neural cell adhesion molecule involved in the dynamics of cell adhesion and in the generation of transmembrane signals at tyrosine kinase receptors. During brain development, critical in multiple processes, including neuronal migration, axonal growth and fasciculation, and synaptogenesis. In the mature brain, plays a role in the dynamics of neuronal structure and function, including synaptic plasticity. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:20621658, ECO:0000305}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |I-set| |fn3| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |axon guidance receptor activity| |axonal growth cone| |positive regulation of axon extension| |positive regulation of axonogenesis| |regulation of axon extension| |regulation of extent of cell growth| |cell-matrix adhesion| |positive regulation of cell morphogenesis involved in differentiation| |positive regulation of cell growth| |homophilic cell adhesion via plasma membrane adhesion molecules| |positive regulation of developmental growth| |regulation of cell size| |regulation of axonogenesis| |cell-substrate adhesion| |protein domain specific binding| |positive regulation of growth| |cell-cell adhesion via plasma-membrane adhesion molecules| |axon guidance| |neuron projection guidance| |synapse organization| |positive regulation of neuron projection development| |axon| |regulation of cell morphogenesis involved in differentiation| |regulation of developmental growth| |collagen-containing extracellular matrix| |positive regulation of neuron differentiation| |axonogenesis| |neuronal cell body| |regulation of cellular component size| |leukocyte migration| |positive regulation of cell projection organization| |axon development| |focal adhesion| |regulation of cell growth| |dendrite| |cell morphogenesis involved in neuron differentiation| |positive regulation of neurogenesis| |neuron projection morphogenesis| |plasma membrane bounded cell projection morphogenesis| |cell projection morphogenesis| |regulation of cell morphogenesis| |regulation of neuron projection development| |cell-cell adhesion| |regulation of anatomical structure size| |cell part morphogenesis| |positive regulation of nervous system development| |positive regulation of cell development| |chemotaxis| |taxis| |cell morphogenesis involved in differentiation| |cell surface| |regulation of neuron differentiation| |neuron projection development| |regulation of growth| |regulation of plasma membrane bounded cell projection organization| |regulation of cell projection organization| |cell morphogenesis| |neuron development| |regulation of neurogenesis| |cellular component morphogenesis| |regulation of nervous system development| |cell adhesion| |regulation of cell development| |biological adhesion| |cell migration| |positive regulation of cell differentiation| |neuron differentiation| |regulation of anatomical structure morphogenesis| |localization of cell| |cell motility| |plasma membrane bounded cell projection organization| |cell projection organization| |positive regulation of cellular component organization| |locomotion| |positive regulation of developmental process| |generation of neurons| |movement of cell or subcellular component| |neurogenesis| |cell development| |positive regulation of multicellular organismal process| |regulation of cell differentiation| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='default' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> No hits were found. </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/694 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/26| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/30| |central nervous system|0/49| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/11| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/14| |kidney|0/18| |liver|0/19| |lung|0/72| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/25| |pancreas|0/22| |peripheral nervous system|0/15| |plasma cell|0/12| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/20| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/28| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 15755 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: -0.05 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='L1CAM Expression in NALM6 Cells: -0.05'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2025/12/10 20:19by 127.0.0.1
