Mucins are high molecular weight glycoproteins produced by many epithelial tissues. The protein encoded by this gene is secreted and forms an insoluble mucous barrier that protects the gut lumen. The protein polymerizes into a gel of which 80% is composed of oligosaccharide side chains by weight. The protein features a central domain containing tandem repeats rich in threonine and proline that varies between 50 and 115 copies in different individuals. Downregulation of this gene has been observed in patients with Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2016]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Coats the epithelia of the intestines, airways, and other mucus membrane-containing organs. Thought to provide a protective, lubricating barrier against particles and infectious agents at mucosal surfaces. Major constituent of both the inner and outer mucus layers of the colon and may play a role in excluding bacteria from the inner mucus layer. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19432394}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |VWD| |C8| |TIL| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |outer mucus layer| |inner mucus layer| |maintenance of gastrointestinal epithelium| |epithelial structure maintenance| |O-glycan processing| |digestive system process| |Golgi lumen| |protein O-linked glycosylation| |digestion| |stimulatory C-type lectin receptor signaling pathway| |innate immune response activating cell surface receptor signaling pathway| |tissue homeostasis| |innate immune response-activating signal transduction| |macromolecule glycosylation| |protein glycosylation| |activation of innate immune response| |glycosylation| |glycoprotein biosynthetic process| |multicellular organismal homeostasis| |anatomical structure homeostasis| |positive regulation of innate immune response| |positive regulation of response to biotic stimulus| |collagen-containing extracellular matrix| |glycoprotein metabolic process| |immune response-activating cell surface receptor signaling pathway| |regulation of innate immune response| |positive regulation of defense response| |immune response-regulating cell surface receptor signaling pathway| |positive regulation of multi-organism process| |regulation of response to biotic stimulus| |immune response-activating signal transduction| |immune response-regulating signaling pathway| |positive regulation of response to external stimulus| |carbohydrate derivative biosynthetic process| |activation of immune response| |regulation of defense response| |regulation of multi-organism process| |positive regulation of immune response| |carbohydrate derivative metabolic process| |regulation of response to external stimulus| |positive regulation of immune system process| |regulation of immune response| |organonitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |regulation of response to stress| |homeostatic process| |regulation of immune system process| |cellular macromolecule biosynthetic process| |macromolecule biosynthetic process| |system process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |Hypoxia 5%O2 R04 exp191|-2.01| |Golgicide-A 4μM R03 exp122|-1.77| |Pimelic-diphenylamide-106 5μM R00 exp28|-1.76| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> ^Gene^Correlation^ |PRIM1|0.493| </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: N/A ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 4878 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: -4.6 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='MUC2 Expression in NALM6 Cells: -4.6'> </modal> Last modified: 2025/12/10 20:19by 127.0.0.1
