This protein switches from inactive phosphorylase B to active phosphorylase A by phosphorylation of serine residue 15. Activity of this enzyme is further regulated by multiple allosteric effectors and hormonal controls. Humans have three glycogen phosphorylase genes that encode distinct isozymes that are primarily expressed in liver, brain and muscle, respectively. The liver isozyme serves the glycemic demands of the body in general while the brain and muscle isozymes supply just those tissues. In glycogen storage disease type VI, also known as Hers disease, mutations in liver glycogen phosphorylase inhibit the conversion of glycogen to glucose and results in moderate hypoglycemia, mild ketosis, growth retardation and hepatomegaly. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.[provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: N/A <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |Phosphorylase| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |purine nucleobase binding| |vitamin binding| |linear malto-oligosaccharide phosphorylase activity| |glycogen phosphorylase activity| |SHG alpha-glucan phosphorylase activity| |5-phosphoribose 1-diphosphate biosynthetic process| |5-phosphoribose 1-diphosphate metabolic process| |bile acid binding| |glucose binding| |AMP binding| |glycogen catabolic process| |glucan catabolic process| |cellular polysaccharide catabolic process| |polysaccharide catabolic process| |necroptotic process| |programmed necrotic cell death| |necrotic cell death| |cellular carbohydrate catabolic process| |glycogen metabolic process| |glucan metabolic process| |cellular glucan metabolic process| |pyridoxal phosphate binding| |drug binding| |energy reserve metabolic process| |cellular polysaccharide metabolic process| |polysaccharide metabolic process| |secretory granule lumen| |carbohydrate catabolic process| |ficolin-1-rich granule lumen| |ribose phosphate biosynthetic process| |cellular carbohydrate metabolic process| |glucose homeostasis| |carbohydrate homeostasis| |energy derivation by oxidation of organic compounds| |ribose phosphate metabolic process| |generation of precursor metabolites and energy| |carbohydrate metabolic process| |neutrophil degranulation| |neutrophil activation involved in immune response| |neutrophil mediated immunity| |neutrophil activation| |granulocyte activation| |leukocyte degranulation| |myeloid leukocyte mediated immunity| |myeloid cell activation involved in immune response| |organophosphate biosynthetic process| |myeloid leukocyte activation| |carbohydrate derivative biosynthetic process| |leukocyte activation involved in immune response| |cell activation involved in immune response| |response to bacterium| |regulated exocytosis| |leukocyte mediated immunity| |exocytosis| |protein homodimerization activity| |organophosphate metabolic process| |leukocyte activation| |oxidation-reduction process| |secretion by cell| |carbohydrate derivative metabolic process| |export from cell| |macromolecule catabolic process| |programmed cell death| |cell activation| |immune effector process| |cell death| |chemical homeostasis| |secretion| |response to other organism| |response to external biotic stimulus| |response to biotic stimulus| |ATP binding| |homeostatic process| |organic substance catabolic process| |cellular catabolic process| |immune response| |extracellular region| |vesicle-mediated transport| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp466|Cannabidiol 20μM R08 exp466]]|-1.87| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 7237 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 2.59 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='PYGL Expression in NALM6 Cells: 2.59'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2025/12/10 20:19by 127.0.0.1
