It was originally discovered as a placental thrombin inhibitor. The mouse homolog was found to be expressed in the hair cells of the inner ear. Mutations in this gene are associated with nonsyndromic progressive hearing loss, suggesting that this serpin plays an important role in the inner ear in the protection against leakage of lysosomal content during stress, and that loss of this protection results in cell death and sensorineural hearing loss. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: May be involved in the regulation of serine proteinases present in the brain or extravasated from the blood (By similarity). Inhibitor of cathepsin G, kallikrein-8 and thrombin. May play an important role in the inner ear in the protection against leakage of lysosomal content during stress and loss of this protection results in cell death and sensorineural hearing loss. {ECO:0000250, ECO:0000269|PubMed:10068683, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17761692, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20451170, ECO:0000269|PubMed:8136380, ECO:0000269|PubMed:8415716}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |Serpin| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |serine protease inhibitor complex| |cellular response to osmotic stress| |ficolin-1-rich granule membrane| |tertiary granule membrane| |response to osmotic stress| |serine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity| |secretory granule membrane| |protease binding| |sensory perception of sound| |sensory perception of mechanical stimulus| |negative regulation of endopeptidase activity| |negative regulation of peptidase activity| |cellular response to abiotic stimulus| |cellular response to environmental stimulus| |negative regulation of proteolysis| |collagen-containing extracellular matrix| |regulation of endopeptidase activity| |regulation of peptidase activity| |negative regulation of hydrolase activity| |neutrophil degranulation| |neutrophil activation involved in immune response| |neutrophil mediated immunity| |neutrophil activation| |granulocyte activation| |leukocyte degranulation| |myeloid leukocyte mediated immunity| |myeloid cell activation involved in immune response| |myeloid leukocyte activation| |leukocyte activation involved in immune response| |cell activation involved in immune response| |regulated exocytosis| |regulation of proteolysis| |leukocyte mediated immunity| |negative regulation of catalytic activity| |exocytosis| |leukocyte activation| |sensory perception| |secretion by cell| |negative regulation of cellular protein metabolic process| |export from cell| |cell activation| |immune effector process| |negative regulation of protein metabolic process| |secretion| |negative regulation of molecular function| |response to abiotic stimulus| |regulation of hydrolase activity| |nervous system process| |extracellular space| |cellular response to stress| |immune response| |extracellular region| |vesicle-mediated transport| |system process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |GSK591 2.6μM R03 exp128|-1.99| |Ibrutinib 10μM R08 exp442|-1.76| |CHIR-124 0.04μM R06 exp272|-1.71| |GSK-J4 1-1.25μM to day4 R07 exp363|1.85| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> ^Gene^Correlation^ |HGC6.3|0.473| </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 10891 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 2.15 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='SERPINB6 Expression in NALM6 Cells: 2.15'> </modal> Last modified: 2025/12/10 20:19by 127.0.0.1
