Family members are well conserved in gene structure and protein length yet have markedly different tissue expression patterns. The expression of this gene appears to be restricted to spermatocytes. Alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode different isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2010]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Acts as a DIDS-sensitive anion exchanger mediating chloride, sulfate and oxalate transport. May fulfill critical anion exchange functions in male germ line during meiosis and hence may play a role in spermatogenesis. May be involved in a new regulatory pathway linking sulfate transport to RhoGTPase signaling in male germ cells. A critical component of the sperm annulus that is essential for correct sperm tail differentiation and motility and hence male fertility. May form a moleculer complex involved in the regulation of chloride and bicarbonate ions fluxes during sperm capacitation. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11278976, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11834742, ECO:0000269|PubMed:22121115}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |STAS| |Sulfate transp| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |oxalate transmembrane transporter activity| |oxalate transport| |secondary active sulfate transmembrane transporter activity| |bicarbonate transmembrane transporter activity| |sulfate transmembrane transporter activity| |chloride transmembrane transporter activity| |sulfate transmembrane transport| |sulfate transport| |anion:anion antiporter activity| |sperm capacitation| |bicarbonate transport| |sulfur compound transport| |chloride channel activity| |sperm motility| |flagellated sperm motility| |dicarboxylic acid transport| |chloride transmembrane transport| |cilium-dependent cell motility| |cilium or flagellum-dependent cell motility| |chloride transport| |inorganic anion transmembrane transport| |spermatid development| |spermatid differentiation| |cell maturation| |inorganic anion transport| |meiotic cell cycle| |developmental maturation| |germ cell development| |anion transmembrane transport| |carboxylic acid transport| |organic acid transport| |cellular process involved in reproduction in multicellular organism| |organic anion transport| |spermatogenesis| |male gamete generation| |anion transport| |inorganic ion transmembrane transport| |developmental process involved in reproduction| |gamete generation| |multicellular organismal reproductive process| |sexual reproduction| |multicellular organism reproduction| |ion transmembrane transport| |multi-organism reproductive process| |cell motility| |localization of cell| |transmembrane transport| |locomotion| |cell cycle| |ion transport| |integral component of plasma membrane| |reproductive process| |reproduction| |movement of cell or subcellular component| |cell development| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |Artemisinin 50μM R08 exp450|-2.25| |Pterostilbene 16μM R02 exp78|-1.84| |Fas-L 44ng/ml R08 exp482|-1.77| |THZ1 0.06μM R08 exp531|-1.76| |Vinblastine 0.002μM R01 exp60|1.81| |MS023 7μM R03 exp135|1.92| |IU1-47 25μM R04 exp182|1.96| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 7301 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 2.55 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='SLC26A8 Expression in NALM6 Cells: 2.55'> </modal> Last modified: 2025/12/10 20:19by 127.0.0.1
