The encoded protein is a chromosomal passenger protein that forms complexes with Aurora-B and inner centromere proteins and may play a role in organizing microtubules in relation to centrosome/spindle function during mitosis. This gene is overexpressed in several cancer cell lines, suggesting an involvement in oncogenic signal transduction. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Serine/threonine-protein kinase component of the chromosomal passenger complex (CPC), a complex that acts as a key regulator of mitosis. The CPC complex has essential functions at the centromere in ensuring correct chromosome alignment and segregation and is required for chromatin-induced microtubule stabilization and spindle assembly. Plays also a role in meiosis and more particularly in spermatogenesis. Has redundant cellular functions with AURKB and can rescue an AURKB knockdown. Like AURKB, AURKC phosphorylates histone H3 at 'Ser-10' and 'Ser-28'. AURKC phosphorylates the CPC complex subunits BIRC5/survivin and INCENP leading to increased AURKC activity. Phosphorylates TACC1, another protein involved in cell division, at 'Ser-228'. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15316025, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15499654, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15670791, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15938719, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21493633, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21531210, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27332895}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |Pkinase Tyr| |Pkinase| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |histone serine kinase activity| |chromosome passenger complex| |mitotic spindle midzone assembly| |mitotic spindle elongation| |spindle elongation| |spindle midzone assembly| |histone-serine phosphorylation| |condensed nuclear chromosome, centromeric region| |spindle pole centrosome| |attachment of spindle microtubules to kinetochore| |spindle midzone| |condensed chromosome| |histone phosphorylation| |protein serine/threonine/tyrosine kinase activity| |spindle microtubule| |mitotic spindle assembly| |oocyte development| |positive regulation of cytokinesis| |oocyte differentiation| |mitotic spindle organization| |oogenesis| |positive regulation of cell division| |regulation of cytokinesis| |spindle assembly| |microtubule cytoskeleton organization involved in mitosis| |mitotic sister chromatid segregation| |spindle| |female gamete generation| |sister chromatid segregation| |mitotic nuclear division| |spindle organization| |midbody| |regulation of cell division| |peptidyl-serine phosphorylation| |peptidyl-serine modification| |nuclear chromosome segregation| |meiotic cell cycle| |protein kinase activity| |germ cell development| |chromosome segregation| |nuclear division| |positive regulation of cell cycle process| |organelle fission| |cellular process involved in reproduction in multicellular organism| |histone modification| |covalent chromatin modification| |positive regulation of cell cycle| |microtubule cytoskeleton organization| |cell division| |spermatogenesis| |male gamete generation| |mitotic cell cycle process| |developmental process involved in reproduction| |microtubule-based process| |mitotic cell cycle| |gamete generation| |chromatin organization| |regulation of cell cycle process| |organelle assembly| |multicellular organismal reproductive process| |sexual reproduction| |multicellular organism reproduction| |peptidyl-amino acid modification| |protein phosphorylation| |multi-organism reproductive process| |cell cycle process| |chromosome organization| |cytoskeleton organization| |regulation of cell cycle| |phosphorylation| |cell cycle| |reproductive process| |reproduction| |ATP binding| |cell development| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |Hinokiflavone 12μM R08 exp487|-1.71| |Rapamycin 2μM R07 exp306|1.72| |FBS-Wisent 0.1 R07 exp426|2.57| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> ^Gene^Correlation^ |RRM1|0.412| </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/726 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/25| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/15| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/14| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/7| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 6296 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: -1.01 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='AURKC Expression in NALM6 Cells: -1.01'> </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
