It is an evolutionarily conserved nuclear protein with multiple interacting domains. The N-terminal half shares moderate homology with regions of calmodulin and M-calpain, suggesting that it may also bind calcium. Functional studies indicate that this protein may be an important cofactor for BRCA2 in tumor suppression, and a modulator of CDK2 kinase activity via p21. This protein has also been implicated in the regulation of BRCA2 and RAD51 nuclear focus formation, double-strand break-induced homologous recombination, and cell cycle progression. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: During interphase, required for microtubule organizing and anchoring activities. During mitosis, required for the organization and stabilization of the spindle pole (PubMed:28394342). Isoform 2/alpha is particularly important for the regulation of microtubule anchoring, microtubule stability, spindle architecture and spindle orientation, compared to isoform 1/beta (PubMed:28394342). May promote cell cycle arrest by enhancing the inhibition of CDK2 activity by CDKN1A. May be required for repair of DNA damage by homologous recombination in conjunction with BRCA2. May not be involved in non-homologous end joining (NHEJ). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10878006, ECO:0000269|PubMed:14726710, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15539944, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15713648, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17947333, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28394342}. <button type='default' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> No Pfam Domain information is available for this gene. </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |kinase regulator activity| |nuclear cyclin-dependent protein kinase holoenzyme complex| |neuroendocrine cell differentiation| |microtubule anchoring| |mitotic spindle pole| |establishment of mitotic spindle orientation| |establishment of mitotic spindle localization| |establishment of spindle orientation| |mitotic spindle assembly| |establishment of spindle localization| |neuroepithelial cell differentiation| |spindle localization| |tubulin binding| |mitotic spindle organization| |columnar/cuboidal epithelial cell differentiation| |regulation of cyclin-dependent protein serine/threonine kinase activity| |spindle assembly| |regulation of cyclin-dependent protein kinase activity| |microtubule cytoskeleton organization involved in mitosis| |establishment of cell polarity| |centriole| |mitotic nuclear division| |spindle organization| |establishment or maintenance of cell polarity| |nuclear division| |organelle fission| |establishment of organelle localization| |microtubule cytoskeleton organization| |centrosome| |DNA repair| |regulation of protein serine/threonine kinase activity| |organelle localization| |mitotic cell cycle process| |microtubule-based process| |epithelial cell differentiation| |mitotic cell cycle| |DNA metabolic process| |organelle assembly| |cellular response to DNA damage stimulus| |regulation of protein kinase activity| |regulation of kinase activity| |regulation of transferase activity| |cell cycle process| |cytoskeleton organization| |epithelium development| |regulation of cell cycle| |cell cycle| |RNA binding| |regulation of protein phosphorylation| |regulation of phosphorylation| |cellular response to stress| |tissue development| |regulation of phosphate metabolic process| |regulation of phosphorus metabolic process| |establishment of localization in cell| |regulation of protein modification process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='default' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> No hits were found. </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 495 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 6.32 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='BCCIP Expression in NALM6 Cells: 6.32'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
