A polymorphism at this locus has been reported to be associated with susceptibility to late-onset Alzheimer's disease in some populations, but the pathogenicity of this polymorphism is unclear.[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Pore-forming subunit of a voltage-gated ion channel required for sensory perception of sweet, bitter and umami tastes. Specifically present in type II taste bud cells, where it plays a central role in sweet, bitter and umami taste perception by inducing ATP release from the cell, ATP acting as a neurotransmitter to activate afferent neural gustatory pathways. Acts both as a voltage-gated and calcium-activated ion channel: mediates neuronal excitability in response to changes in extracellular Ca(2+) concentration. Has poor ion selectivity and forms a wide pore (around 14 Angstroms) that mediates permeation of Ca(2+), Na(+) and K(+), as well as permeation of monovalent anions. Acts as an activator of the ERK1 and ERK2 cascade. Triggers endoplasmic reticulum stress by reducing the calcium content of the endoplasmic reticulum. May indirectly control amyloid precursor protein (APP) proteolysis and aggregated amyloid-beta (Abeta) peptides levels in a Ca(2+) dependent manner. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:18585350, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21574960, ECO:0000269|PubMed:22711817, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23300080, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23345406}. <button type='default' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> No Pfam Domain information is available for this gene. </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |sensory perception of sweet taste| |sensory perception of umami taste| |ATP transport| |calcium activated cation channel activity| |adenine nucleotide transport| |purine ribonucleotide transport| |purine nucleotide transport| |nucleotide transport| |voltage-gated calcium channel activity| |voltage-gated ion channel activity| |sensory perception of bitter taste| |sensory perception of taste| |carbohydrate derivative transport| |organophosphate ester transport| |drug transport| |calcium ion transmembrane transport| |nucleobase-containing compound transport| |calcium ion transport| |divalent metal ion transport| |divalent inorganic cation transport| |protein homooligomerization| |organic anion transport| |regulation of ion transmembrane transport| |protein complex oligomerization| |sensory perception of chemical stimulus| |inorganic cation transmembrane transport| |regulation of transmembrane transport| |anion transport| |cation transmembrane transport| |metal ion transport| |inorganic ion transmembrane transport| |regulation of ion transport| |cation transport| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |ion transmembrane transport| |sensory perception| |response to drug| |identical protein binding| |transmembrane transport| |ion transport| |nervous system process| |integral component of plasma membrane| |protein-containing complex assembly| |nitrogen compound transport| |protein-containing complex subunit organization| |regulation of transport| |system process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp406|Thalidomide 20μM R07 exp406]]|1.82| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 9013 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 0.58 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='CALHM1 Expression in NALM6 Cells: 0.58'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
