Its expression is restricted to premeiotic germ cells, particularly in spermatogonia. It encodes an RNA-binding protein that is important for spermatogenesis. Four copies of this gene are found on chromosome Y within palindromic duplications; one pair of genes is part of the P2 palindrome and the second pair is part of the P1 palindrome. Each gene contains a 2.4 kb repeat including a 72-bp exon, called the DAZ repeat; the number of DAZ repeats is variable and there are several variations in the sequence of the DAZ repeat. Each copy of the gene also contains a 10.8 kb region that may be amplified; this region includes five exons that encode an RNA recognition motif (RRM) domain. This gene contains one copy of the 10.8 kb repeat. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: RNA-binding protein that plays an essential role in spermatogenesis. May act by binding to the 3'-UTR of mRNAs and regulating their translation. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |RRM 1| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |translation activator activity| |3-UTR-mediated mRNA stabilization| |positive regulation of translational initiation| |mRNA stabilization| |RNA stabilization| |negative regulation of mRNA catabolic process| |negative regulation of RNA catabolic process| |mRNA 3-UTR binding| |negative regulation of mRNA metabolic process| |regulation of translational initiation| |positive regulation of translation| |positive regulation of cellular amide metabolic process| |regulation of mRNA stability| |regulation of RNA stability| |regulation of mRNA catabolic process| |negative regulation of cellular catabolic process| |germ cell development| |negative regulation of catabolic process| |regulation of mRNA metabolic process| |regulation of translation| |cellular process involved in reproduction in multicellular organism| |regulation of cellular amide metabolic process| |posttranscriptional regulation of gene expression| |spermatogenesis| |male gamete generation| |protein-containing complex| |developmental process involved in reproduction| |gamete generation| |multicellular organismal reproductive process| |sexual reproduction| |regulation of cellular catabolic process| |multicellular organism reproduction| |multi-organism reproductive process| |regulation of catabolic process| |negative regulation of RNA metabolic process| |reproductive process| |reproduction| |negative regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process| |positive regulation of cellular protein metabolic process| |cell development| |positive regulation of protein metabolic process| |positive regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of cellular biosynthetic process| |positive regulation of gene expression| |positive regulation of biosynthetic process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='default' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> No hits were found. </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> ^Gene^Correlation^ |[[:human genes:h:hgc6.3|HGC6.3]]|0.503| </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: N/A ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 7541 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 2.59 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='DAZ3 Expression in NALM6 Cells: 2.59'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
