The SMN complex is localized to a subnuclear compartment called gems (gemini of coiled bodies) and is required for assembly of spliceosomal snRNPs and for pre-mRNA splicing. This protein interacts directly with the survival of motor neuron protein and it is required for formation of the SMN complex. A knockout mouse targeting the mouse homolog of this gene exhibited disrupted snRNP assembly and motor neuron degeneration. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: The SMN complex plays a catalyst role in the assembly of small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), the building blocks of the spliceosome. Thereby, plays an important role in the splicing of cellular pre-mRNAs. Most spliceosomal snRNPs contain a common set of Sm proteins SNRPB, SNRPD1, SNRPD2, SNRPD3, SNRPE, SNRPF and SNRPG that assemble in a heptameric protein ring on the Sm site of the small nuclear RNA to form the core snRNP. In the cytosol, the Sm proteins SNRPD1, SNRPD2, SNRPE, SNRPF and SNRPG are trapped in an inactive 6S pICln-Sm complex by the chaperone CLNS1A that controls the assembly of the core snRNP. Dissociation by the SMN complex of CLNS1A from the trapped Sm proteins and their transfer to an SMN-Sm complex triggers the assembly of core snRNPs and their transport to the nucleus. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:18984161, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9323129}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |SIP1| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |SMN complex| |Gemini of coiled bodies| |SMN-Sm protein complex| |spliceosomal snRNP assembly| |spliceosomal complex assembly| |spliceosomal complex| |import into nucleus| |ribonucleoprotein complex assembly| |ribonucleoprotein complex subunit organization| |nucleocytoplasmic transport| |nuclear transport| |nuclear body| |mRNA splicing, via spliceosome| |RNA splicing, via transesterification reactions with bulged adenosine as nucleophile| |RNA splicing, via transesterification reactions| |RNA splicing| |ribonucleoprotein complex biogenesis| |mRNA processing| |mRNA metabolic process| |cellular protein-containing complex assembly| |nucleolus| |RNA processing| |intracellular transport| |protein-containing complex assembly| |RNA metabolic process| |establishment of localization in cell| |protein-containing complex subunit organization| |gene expression| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |Caffeine 2600μM R08 exp463|-2.15| |WNT3A 44ng/ml R08 exp537|-1.9| |Rotenone 20μM R00 exp34|1.84| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 1925 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 4.58 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='GEMIN2 Expression in NALM6 Cells: 4.58'> </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
