The encoded protein is a subunit of the potassium channel which is homotetrameric. It is controlled by G-proteins and has a greater tendency to allow potassium to flow into a cell rather than out of a cell. Naturally occurring mutations in this gene are associated with aldosterone-producing adenomas. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2017]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: This potassium channel is controlled by G proteins. Inward rectifier potassium channels are characterized by a greater tendency to allow potassium to flow into the cell rather than out of it. Their voltage dependence is regulated by the concentration of extracellular potassium; as external potassium is raised, the voltage range of the channel opening shifts to more positive voltages. The inward rectification is mainly due to the blockage of outward current by internal magnesium. Can be blocked by external barium. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:22315453, ECO:0000269|PubMed:22628607, ECO:0000269|PubMed:24037882, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27099398, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27293068}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |IRK| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |voltage-gated potassium channel activity involved in atrial cardiac muscle cell action potential repolarization| |G-protein activated inward rectifier potassium channel activity| |atrial cardiac muscle cell membrane repolarization| |membrane repolarization during atrial cardiac muscle cell action potential| |membrane repolarization during ventricular cardiac muscle cell action potential| |ventricular cardiac muscle cell membrane repolarization| |voltage-gated potassium channel activity involved in ventricular cardiac muscle cell action potential repolarization| |atrial cardiac muscle cell to AV node cell signaling| |atrial cardiac muscle cell action potential| |atrial cardiac muscle cell to AV node cell communication| |cardiac muscle cell membrane repolarization| |membrane repolarization during cardiac muscle cell action potential| |membrane repolarization during action potential| |inward rectifier potassium channel activity| |ventricular cardiac muscle cell action potential| |membrane repolarization| |cell-cell signaling involved in cardiac conduction| |regulation of heart rate by cardiac conduction| |cardiac muscle cell action potential involved in contraction| |cardiac muscle cell contraction| |T-tubule| |potassium ion import across plasma membrane| |cell communication involved in cardiac conduction| |cardiac muscle cell action potential| |inorganic ion import across plasma membrane| |inorganic cation import across plasma membrane| |cardiac muscle contraction| |voltage-gated potassium channel complex| |heart contraction| |actin-mediated cell contraction| |cardiac conduction| |action potential| |import across plasma membrane| |regulation of heart rate| |heart process| |striated muscle contraction| |actin filament-based movement| |multicellular organismal signaling| |potassium ion transmembrane transport| |potassium ion transport| |regulation of heart contraction| |muscle contraction| |regulation of blood circulation| |muscle system process| |blood circulation| |external side of plasma membrane| |circulatory system process| |monovalent inorganic cation transport| |regulation of membrane potential| |regulation of ion transmembrane transport| |inorganic cation transmembrane transport| |regulation of transmembrane transport| |actin filament-based process| |regulation of system process| |cation transmembrane transport| |metal ion transport| |inorganic ion transmembrane transport| |import into cell| |regulation of ion transport| |cation transport| |ion transmembrane transport| |cell-cell signaling| |transmembrane transport| |ion transport| |movement of cell or subcellular component| |regulation of transport| |system process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |Suberoylanilide-Hydroxamic-Acid 0.02μM R01 exp53|-1.82| |UM0011500 5μM R05 exp245|1.75| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> ^Gene^Correlation^ |HGC6.3|0.514| </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 7830 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 2.59 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='KCNJ5 Expression in NALM6 Cells: 2.59'> </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
