The type II cytokeratins consist of basic or neutral proteins which are arranged in pairs of heterotypic keratin chains coexpressed during differentiation of simple and stratified epithelial tissues. As many as six of this type II cytokeratin (KRT6) have been identified; the multiplicity of the genes is attributed to successive gene duplication events. The genes are expressed with family members KRT16 and/or KRT17 in the filiform papillae of the tongue, the stratified epithelial lining of oral mucosa and esophagus, the outer root sheath of hair follicles, and the glandular epithelia. This KRT6 gene in particular encodes the most abundant isoform. Mutations in these genes have been associated with pachyonychia congenita. In addition, peptides from the C-terminal region of the protein have antimicrobial activity against bacterial pathogens. The type II cytokeratins are clustered in a region of chromosome 12q12-q13. Involved in the activation of follicular keratinocytes after wounding, while it does not play a major role in keratinocyte proliferation or migration. Participates in the regulation of epithelial migration by inhibiting the activity of SRC during wound repair. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P50446}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |Filament| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |negative regulation of cytolysis in other organism| |negative regulation of cytolysis by symbiont of host cells| |regulation of cytolysis by symbiont of host cells| |regulation of cytolysis in other organism involved in symbiotic interaction| |negative regulation of cytolysis in other organism involved in symbiotic interaction| |negative regulation of killing of cells of other organism| |cytolysis in other organism involved in symbiotic interaction| |negative regulation of entry of bacterium into host cell| |regulation of cytolysis in other organism| |negative regulation of cytolysis| |cytolysis in other organism| |regulation of entry of bacterium into host cell| |killing of cells in other organism involved in symbiotic interaction| |disruption of cells of other organism involved in symbiotic interaction| |regulation of killing of cells of other organism| |regulation of cytolysis| |multi-organism cellular process| |negative regulation of cell killing| |cytolysis| |disruption of cells of other organism| |killing of cells of other organism| |antimicrobial humoral immune response mediated by antimicrobial peptide| |cell killing| |defense response to Gram-positive bacterium| |keratin filament| |regulation of cell killing| |structural constituent of cytoskeleton| |modification of morphology or physiology of other organism involved in symbiotic interaction| |antimicrobial humoral response| |cornification| |modification of morphology or physiology of other organism| |negative regulation of multi-organism process| |regulation of symbiosis, encompassing mutualism through parasitism| |keratinization| |keratinocyte differentiation| |epidermal cell differentiation| |defense response to bacterium| |humoral immune response| |skin development| |epidermis development| |morphogenesis of an epithelium| |wound healing| |tissue morphogenesis| |response to wounding| |epithelial cell differentiation| |response to bacterium| |regulation of multi-organism process| |symbiotic process| |interspecies interaction between organisms| |positive regulation of cell population proliferation| |defense response to other organism| |programmed cell death| |cell death| |cytoskeleton organization| |epithelium development| |response to other organism| |response to external biotic stimulus| |response to biotic stimulus| |defense response| |regulation of cell population proliferation| |tissue development| |immune response| |membrane| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp379|MSC2530818 10μM R07 exp379]]|1.78| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 18116 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: -5.6 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='KRT6A Expression in NALM6 Cells: -5.6'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
