This reaction is an important step in vitamin A metabolism in the visual system. Mutations in this gene have been associated with early-onset severe retinal dystrophy and Leber congenital amaurosis 14. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2014]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Transfers the acyl group from the sn-1 position of phosphatidylcholine to all-trans retinol, producing all-trans retinyl esters. Retinyl esters are storage forms of vitamin A. LRAT plays a critical role in vision. It provides the all-trans retinyl ester substrates for the isomerohydrolase which processes the esters into 11-cis-retinol in the retinal pigment epithelium; due to a membrane-associated alcohol dehydrogenase, 11 cis-retinol is oxidized and converted into 11-cis-retinaldehyde which is the chromophore for rhodopsin and the cone photopigments. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:9920938}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |NC| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |phosphatidylcholine-retinol O-acyltransferase activity| |O-palmitoyltransferase activity| |lecithin:11-cis retinol acyltransferase activity| |vitamin A metabolic process| |retinol binding| |response to vitamin A| |transferase activity, transferring acyl groups| |retinoic acid binding| |multivesicular body| |fat-soluble vitamin metabolic process| |retinol metabolic process| |rough endoplasmic reticulum| |positive regulation of lipid transport| |primary alcohol metabolic process| |positive regulation of lipid localization| |response to vitamin| |response to leukemia inhibitory factor| |cellular response to leukemia inhibitory factor| |retinoid metabolic process| |regulation of lipid transport| |response to retinoic acid| |diterpenoid metabolic process| |terpenoid metabolic process| |cellular hormone metabolic process| |vitamin metabolic process| |regulation of lipid localization| |isoprenoid metabolic process| |hormone metabolic process| |response to nutrient| |visual perception| |sensory perception of light stimulus| |alcohol metabolic process| |response to acid chemical| |organic hydroxy compound metabolic process| |response to nutrient levels| |response to extracellular stimulus| |regulation of hormone levels| |response to bacterium| |perinuclear region of cytoplasm| |response to lipid| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |cellular lipid metabolic process| |sensory perception| |positive regulation of transport| |cellular response to cytokine stimulus| |response to cytokine| |lipid metabolic process| |response to other organism| |response to external biotic stimulus| |response to biotic stimulus| |nervous system process| |response to oxygen-containing compound| |small molecule metabolic process| |regulation of transport| |system process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='default' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> No hits were found. </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 13677 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 2.33 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='LRAT Expression in NALM6 Cells: 2.33'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
