The encoded protein plays a role in cell adhesion, motility and proliferation, and is a critical mediator of apoptotic cell phagocytosis as well as amyloid-beta peptide uptake in the brain. Expression of this gene may be associated with schizophrenia, and mutations in this gene are a cause of early-onset myopathy, areflexia, respiratory distress, and dysphagia (EMARDD) as well as congenital myopathy with minicores. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2012]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Membrane receptor involved in phagocytosis by macrophages and astrocytes of apoptotic cells. Receptor for C1q, an eat-me signal, that binds phosphatidylserine expressed on the surface of apoptotic cells (PubMed:27170117). Cooperates with ABCA1 within the process of engulfment. Promotes the formation of large intracellular vacuoles and may be responsible for the uptake of amyloid-beta peptides (PubMed:20828568, PubMed:17643423). Necessary for astrocyte-dependent apoptotic neuron clearance in the developing cerebellum (PubMed:27170117). Plays role in muscle cell proliferation, adhesion and motility. Is also an essential factor in the regulation of myogenesis. Controls the balance between skeletal muscle satellite cells proliferation and differentiation through regulation of the notch signaling pathway (PubMed:28498977). May also function in the mosaic spacing of specific neuron subtypes in the retina through homotypic retinal neuron repulsion. Mosaics provide a mechanism to distribute each cell type evenly across the retina, ensuring that all parts of the visual field have access to a full set of processing elements (PubMed:17498693, PubMed:17643423, PubMed:20828568, PubMed:22101682, PubMed:27170117, PubMed:28498977). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17205124, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17498693, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17643423, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20828568, ECO:0000269|PubMed:22101682, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27170117, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28498977}. <button type='default' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> No Pfam Domain information is available for this gene. </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |skeletal muscle satellite cell proliferation| |skeletal muscle cell proliferation| |skeletal muscle satellite cell activation| |skeletal muscle satellite cell differentiation| |recognition of apoptotic cell| |complement component C1q binding| |engulfment of apoptotic cell| |myoblast migration| |striated muscle cell proliferation| |muscle cell proliferation| |muscle cell migration| |phagocytic cup| |apoptotic process involved in development| |Notch binding| |apoptotic cell clearance| |regulation of skeletal muscle tissue development| |scavenger receptor activity| |skeletal muscle cell differentiation| |homotypic cell-cell adhesion| |cell projection| |phagocytosis, recognition| |skeletal muscle tissue development| |phagocytosis, engulfment| |regulation of striated muscle tissue development| |skeletal muscle organ development| |regulation of muscle tissue development| |regulation of muscle organ development| |plasma membrane invagination| |membrane invagination| |muscle cell development| |regulation of muscle cell differentiation| |cell recognition| |muscle cell differentiation| |striated muscle tissue development| |muscle organ development| |muscle tissue development| |phagocytosis| |muscle structure development| |cell-cell adhesion| |cell population proliferation| |endocytosis| |import into cell| |membrane organization| |apoptotic process| |cell adhesion| |biological adhesion| |cell migration| |programmed cell death| |cell activation| |cell motility| |localization of cell| |cell death| |locomotion| |movement of cell or subcellular component| |cell development| |tissue development| |regulation of cell differentiation| |vesicle-mediated transport| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='default' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> No hits were found. </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> ^Gene^Correlation^ |[[:human genes:h:hgc6.3|HGC6.3]]|0.485| </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 14851 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: -2.79 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='MEGF10 Expression in NALM6 Cells: -2.79'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
