The protein encoded by this gene is a cytoplasmic protein involved in stress responses, hormone responses, cell growth, and differentiation. The encoded protein is necessary for p53-mediated caspase activation and apoptosis. Mutations in this gene are a cause of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 4D, and expression of this gene may be a prognostic indicator for several types of cancer. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2012]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Stress-responsive protein involved in hormone responses, cell growth, and differentiation. Acts as a tumor suppressor in many cell types. Necessary but not sufficient for p53/TP53- mediated caspase activation and apoptosis. Has a role in cell trafficking, notably of the Schwann cell, and is necessary for the maintenance and development of the peripheral nerve myelin sheath. Required for vesicular recycling of CDH1 and TF. May also function in lipid trafficking. Protects cells from spindle disruption damage. Functions in p53/TP53-dependent mitotic spindle checkpoint. Regulates microtubule dynamics and maintains euploidy. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15247272, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15377670, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17786215, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9766676}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |Ndr| |Abhydrolase 6| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |peripheral nervous system myelin maintenance| |myelin maintenance| |mast cell activation| |peripheral nervous system axon ensheathment| |gamma-tubulin binding| |myelination in peripheral nervous system| |Schwann cell development| |Schwann cell differentiation| |peripheral nervous system development| |DNA damage response, signal transduction by p53 class mediator| |recycling endosome membrane| |postsynapse organization| |plasma membrane organization| |signal transduction in response to DNA damage| |cell-cell adherens junction| |myelination| |glial cell development| |ensheathment of neurons| |axon ensheathment| |signal transduction by p53 class mediator| |Rab GTPase binding| |microtubule cytoskeleton| |glial cell differentiation| |cellular response to hypoxia| |cellular response to decreased oxygen levels| |gliogenesis| |cellular response to oxygen levels| |microtubule binding| |synapse organization| |cadherin binding| |microtubule| |response to hypoxia| |glutamatergic synapse| |response to decreased oxygen levels| |response to metal ion| |response to oxygen levels| |endomembrane system organization| |centrosome| |response to inorganic substance| |myeloid leukocyte activation| |negative regulation of cell population proliferation| |perinuclear region of cytoplasm| |cellular response to DNA damage stimulus| |membrane organization| |leukocyte activation| |cell activation| |response to abiotic stimulus| |regulation of apoptotic process| |regulation of programmed cell death| |regulation of cell population proliferation| |neurogenesis| |cell development| |regulation of cell death| |intracellular signal transduction| |cellular response to stress| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |[[:results:exp333|All-trans-Retinoic-Acid 8μM R07 exp333]]|1.94| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 10540 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 1.84 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='NDRG1 Expression in NALM6 Cells: 1.84'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
