The encoded protein was originally identified as an important component of glomerular podocytes. Podocytes are highly differentiated epithelial cells with interdigitating foot processes covering the outer aspect of the glomerular basement membrane. Other biological activities of the encoded protein include: binding in a membrane protein complex with Na+/H+ exchanger regulatory factor to intracellular cytoskeletal elements, playing a role in hematopoetic cell differentiation, and being expressed in vascular endothelium cells and binding to L-selectin. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Involved in the regulation of both adhesion and cell morphology and cancer progression. Function as an anti-adhesive molecule that maintains an open filtration pathway between neighboring foot processes in the podocyte by charge repulsion. Acts as a pro-adhesive molecule, enhancing the adherence of cells to immobilized ligands, increasing the rate of migration and cell- cell contacts in an integrin-dependent manner. Induces the formation of apical actin-dependent microvilli. Involved in the formation of a preapical plasma membrane subdomain to set up inital epithelial polarization and the apical lumen formation during renal tubulogenesis. Plays a role in cancer development and aggressiveness by inducing cell migration and invasion through its interaction with the actin-binding protein EZR. Affects EZR- dependent signaling events, leading to increased activities of the MAPK and PI3K pathways in cancer cells. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17616675, ECO:0000269|PubMed:18456258}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |CD34 antigen| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |positive regulation of cell-cell adhesion mediated by integrin| |regulation of microvillus assembly| |glomerular visceral epithelial cell development| |slit diaphragm| |glomerular epithelial cell development| |regulation of cell-cell adhesion mediated by integrin| |regulation of microvillus organization| |renal filtration cell differentiation| |glomerular visceral epithelial cell differentiation| |glomerular epithelial cell differentiation| |glomerular epithelium development| |positive regulation of cell adhesion mediated by integrin| |microvillus membrane| |epithelial cell differentiation involved in kidney development| |cell differentiation involved in kidney development| |regulation of cell adhesion mediated by integrin| |glomerulus development| |filopodium| |ruffle| |nephron epithelium development| |nephron development| |kidney epithelium development| |epithelial tube formation| |tube formation| |microtubule organizing center| |negative regulation of cell-cell adhesion| |lamellipodium| |epithelial cell development| |regulation of plasma membrane bounded cell projection assembly| |regulation of cell projection assembly| |membrane raft| |positive regulation of cell-cell adhesion| |kidney development| |negative regulation of cell adhesion| |renal system development| |epithelial tube morphogenesis| |urogenital system development| |apical plasma membrane| |regulation of cell-cell adhesion| |positive regulation of cell adhesion| |morphogenesis of an epithelium| |positive regulation of cell migration| |positive regulation of cell motility| |positive regulation of cellular component movement| |positive regulation of locomotion| |tissue morphogenesis| |tube morphogenesis| |regulation of cell adhesion| |epithelial cell differentiation| |intracellular membrane-bounded organelle| |regulation of plasma membrane bounded cell projection organization| |regulation of cell projection organization| |tube development| |regulation of cell migration| |nucleolus| |anatomical structure formation involved in morphogenesis| |regulation of cell motility| |cell adhesion| |biological adhesion| |regulation of cellular component biogenesis| |cell migration| |regulation of locomotion| |regulation of cellular component movement| |localization of cell| |cell motility| |epithelium development| |locomotion| |integral component of plasma membrane| |movement of cell or subcellular component| |extracellular space| |cell development| |tissue development| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='default' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> No hits were found. </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 6809 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 6.32 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='PODXL Expression in NALM6 Cells: 6.32'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
