This retinol dehydrogenase functions to catalyze the final step in the biosynthesis of 11-cis retinaldehyde, which is the universal chromophore of visual pigments. Mutations in this gene cause autosomal recessive fundus albipunctatus, a rare form of night blindness that is characterized by a delay in the regeneration of cone and rod photopigments. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Read-through transcription also exists between this gene and the neighboring upstream BLOC1S1 (biogenesis of lysosomal organelles complex-1, subunit 1) gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2010]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Stereospecific 11-cis retinol dehydrogenase, which catalyzes the final step in the biosynthesis of 11-cis retinaldehyde, the universal chromophore of visual pigments. Also able to oxidize 9-cis-retinol and 13-cis-retinol, but not all- trans-retinol. Active in the presence of NAD as cofactor but not in the presence of NADP. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10588954, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9115228}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |adh short| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |androstan-3-alpha,17-beta-diol dehydrogenase activity| |androsterone dehydrogenase activity| |retinol dehydrogenase activity| |retinol metabolic process| |cell body| |primary alcohol metabolic process| |retinoid metabolic process| |diterpenoid metabolic process| |terpenoid metabolic process| |cellular hormone metabolic process| |isoprenoid metabolic process| |hormone metabolic process| |visual perception| |sensory perception of light stimulus| |steroid metabolic process| |endoplasmic reticulum lumen| |alcohol metabolic process| |organic hydroxy compound metabolic process| |regulation of hormone levels| |protein homodimerization activity| |endoplasmic reticulum membrane| |cellular lipid metabolic process| |oxidation-reduction process| |sensory perception| |lipid metabolic process| |nervous system process| |small molecule metabolic process| |system process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |ETC-159 50μM R08 exp480|-1.95| |1-Methyl-nicotinamide-chloride 1000μM R03 exp113|-1.9| |Rotenone 0.07μM R08 exp431|1.81| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 6246 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 2.89 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='RDH5 Expression in NALM6 Cells: 2.89'> </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:36by 127.0.0.1
