The encoded protein belongs to the SLC24 branch of exchangers, which can mediate the extrusion of one Ca2+ ion and one K+ ion in exchange for four Na+ ions. This family member is a retinal cone/brain exchanger that can mediate a light-induced decrease in free Ca2+ concentration. This protein may also play a neuroprotective role during ischemic brain injury. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Critical component of the visual transduction cascade, controlling the calcium concentration of outer segments during light and darkness. Light causes a rapid lowering of cytosolic free calcium in the outer segment of both retinal rod and cone photoreceptors and the light-induced lowering of calcium is caused by extrusion via this protein which plays a key role in the process of light adaptation. Transports 1 Ca(2+) and 1 K(+) in exchange for 4 Na(+). <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |Na Ca ex| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |calcium, potassium:sodium antiporter activity| |long-term synaptic depression| |symporter activity| |long-term synaptic potentiation| |calcium channel activity| |negative regulation of synaptic transmission| |sodium ion transmembrane transport| |memory| |learning| |positive regulation of synaptic transmission| |sodium ion transport| |potassium ion transmembrane transport| |protein dimerization activity| |potassium ion transport| |regulation of synaptic plasticity| |calcium ion transmembrane transport| |visual perception| |sensory perception of light stimulus| |calcium ion transport| |learning or memory| |anion transmembrane transport| |divalent metal ion transport| |cognition| |divalent inorganic cation transport| |monovalent inorganic cation transport| |cellular calcium ion homeostasis| |modulation of chemical synaptic transmission| |regulation of trans-synaptic signaling| |calcium ion homeostasis| |cellular divalent inorganic cation homeostasis| |divalent inorganic cation homeostasis| |cellular metal ion homeostasis| |inorganic cation transmembrane transport| |behavior| |anion transport| |cation transmembrane transport| |metal ion homeostasis| |cellular cation homeostasis| |metal ion transport| |cellular ion homeostasis| |inorganic ion transmembrane transport| |cation homeostasis| |inorganic ion homeostasis| |cellular chemical homeostasis| |ion homeostasis| |cation transport| |cellular homeostasis| |ion transmembrane transport| |sensory perception| |chemical homeostasis| |transmembrane transport| |negative regulation of cell communication| |negative regulation of signaling| |ion transport| |nervous system process| |integral component of plasma membrane| |homeostatic process| |positive regulation of cell communication| |positive regulation of signaling| |system process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |Rapamycin 0.001μM R08 exp429|-1.97| |Cabazitaxel 0.001μM R05 exp223|-1.85| |PFI-3 10μM R03 exp144|-1.82| |Ibrutinib 1μM R07 exp372|-1.7| |Dimethyloxaloylglycine 100μM R05 exp229|1.79| |proTAME 5μM R04 exp187|2.37| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> ^Gene^Correlation^ |RRM1|0.474| </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 10101 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 1.55 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='SLC24A2 Expression in NALM6 Cells: 1.55'> </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:37by 127.0.0.1
