Catalyzes passive carrier mediated diffusion of iodide. Mediates iodide transport from the thyrocyte into the colloid lumen through the apical membrane. May be responsible for the absorption of D- lactate and monocarboxylate drugs from the intestinal tract. Acts as a tumor suppressor, suppressing colony formation in colon cancer, prostate cancer and glioma cell lines. May play a critical role in the entry of L-lactate and ketone bodies into neurons by a process driven by an electrochemical Na(+) gradient and hence contribute to the maintenance of the energy status and function of neurons. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12107270, ECO:0000269|PubMed:12829793, ECO:0000269|PubMed:14966140, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15090606, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15361710, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15867356, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16729224, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16805814, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17178845, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17245649, ECO:0000269|PubMed:18037591}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |SSF| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |monocarboxylate:sodium symporter activity| |propanoate transport| |propionate transmembrane transporter activity| |passive transmembrane transporter activity| |short-chain fatty acid transport| |short-chain fatty acid import| |lactate transmembrane transporter activity| |lactate transmembrane transport| |lactate transport| |monocarboxylic acid transmembrane transporter activity| |NAD biosynthesis via nicotinamide riboside salvage pathway| |NAD biosynthetic process| |pyridine nucleotide biosynthetic process| |nicotinamide nucleotide biosynthetic process| |nicotinamide nucleotide metabolic process| |pyridine nucleotide metabolic process| |pyridine-containing compound biosynthetic process| |pyridine-containing compound metabolic process| |oxidoreduction coenzyme metabolic process| |fatty acid transport| |organic acid transmembrane transport| |carboxylic acid transmembrane transport| |coenzyme biosynthetic process| |monocarboxylic acid transport| |organic hydroxy compound transport| |drug transport| |sodium ion transport| |cofactor biosynthetic process| |nucleotide biosynthetic process| |nucleoside phosphate biosynthetic process| |coenzyme metabolic process| |anion transmembrane transport| |organic acid transport| |carboxylic acid transport| |lipid transport| |apical plasma membrane| |lipid localization| |monovalent inorganic cation transport| |cofactor metabolic process| |nucleotide metabolic process| |nucleoside phosphate metabolic process| |organic anion transport| |organophosphate biosynthetic process| |nucleobase-containing small molecule metabolic process| |anion transport| |metal ion transport| |cation transport| |organophosphate metabolic process| |apoptotic process| |ion transmembrane transport| |response to drug| |programmed cell death| |cell death| |nucleobase-containing compound biosynthetic process| |heterocycle biosynthetic process| |aromatic compound biosynthetic process| |transmembrane transport| |organic cyclic compound biosynthetic process| |ion transport| |organonitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |cellular nitrogen compound biosynthetic process| |small molecule metabolic process| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='default' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> No hits were found. </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 11995 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: 3.48 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='SLC5A8 Expression in NALM6 Cells: 3.48'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:37by 127.0.0.1
