It is found in various secretions including seminal plasma, cervical mucus, and bronchial secretions, and has affinity for trypsin, leukocyte elastase, and cathepsin G. Its inhibitory effect contributes to the immune response by protecting epithelial surfaces from attack by endogenous proteolytic enzymes. This antimicrobial protein has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activity. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2014]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Acid-stable proteinase inhibitor with strong affinities for trypsin, chymotrypsin, elastase, and cathepsin G (PubMed:3533531, PubMed:3462719, PubMed:2039600, PubMed:2110563, PubMed:10702419, PubMed:24121345). Modulates the inflammatory and immune responses after bacterial infection, and after infection by the intracellular parasite L.major. Down-regulates responses to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (By similarity). Plays a role in regulating the activation of NF-kappa-B and inflammatory responses (PubMed:10702419, PubMed:24352879). Has antimicrobial activity against mycobacteria, but not against salmonella. Contributes to normal resistance against infection by M.tuberculosis. Required for normal resistance to infection by L.major. Required for normal wound healing, probably by preventing tissue damage by limiting protease activity (By similarity). Together with ELANE, required for normal differentiation and proliferation of bone marrow myeloid cells (PubMed:24352879). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P97430, ECO:0000269|PubMed:10702419, ECO:0000269|PubMed:2039600, ECO:0000269|PubMed:2110563, ECO:0000269|PubMed:24121345, ECO:0000269|PubMed:24352879, ECO:0000269|PubMed:3462719, ECO:0000269|PubMed:3533531, ECO:0000305}. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |WAP| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |endopeptidase inhibitor activity| |antibacterial humoral response| |negative regulation of viral genome replication| |specific granule lumen| |negative regulation of viral life cycle| |regulation of viral genome replication| |serine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity| |negative regulation of viral process| |negative regulation of protein binding| |antimicrobial humoral response| |regulation of viral life cycle| |modification of morphology or physiology of other organism| |mRNA binding| |negative regulation of binding| |regulation of viral process| |negative regulation of multi-organism process| |regulation of protein binding| |regulation of symbiosis, encompassing mutualism through parasitism| |negative regulation of endopeptidase activity| |negative regulation of peptidase activity| |response to lipopolysaccharide| |response to molecule of bacterial origin| |defense response to bacterium| |humoral immune response| |enzyme binding| |negative regulation of proteolysis| |collagen-containing extracellular matrix| |regulation of binding| |regulation of endopeptidase activity| |regulation of peptidase activity| |negative regulation of hydrolase activity| |neutrophil degranulation| |neutrophil activation involved in immune response| |neutrophil mediated immunity| |neutrophil activation| |granulocyte activation| |leukocyte degranulation| |myeloid leukocyte mediated immunity| |myeloid cell activation involved in immune response| |myeloid leukocyte activation| |leukocyte activation involved in immune response| |cell activation involved in immune response| |response to bacterium| |regulated exocytosis| |regulation of proteolysis| |innate immune response| |leukocyte mediated immunity| |regulation of multi-organism process| |negative regulation of catalytic activity| |exocytosis| |interspecies interaction between organisms| |response to lipid| |leukocyte activation| |defense response to other organism| |secretion by cell| |negative regulation of cellular protein metabolic process| |export from cell| |cell activation| |immune effector process| |negative regulation of protein metabolic process| |secretion| |negative regulation of molecular function| |regulation of hydrolase activity| |response to other organism| |response to external biotic stimulus| |response to biotic stimulus| |defense response| |DNA binding| |response to oxygen-containing compound| |extracellular space| |immune response| |extracellular region| |vesicle-mediated transport| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='default' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> No hits were found. </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 7002 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: -7.68 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='SLPI Expression in NALM6 Cells: -7.68'> {{:chemogenomics:nalm6 dist.png?nolink |}} </modal> Last modified: 2026/01/07 22:37by 127.0.0.1
