The encoded protein contains a Gla (gamma carboxyglutamate) domain, which functions in binding to calcium and hydroxyapatite, the mineral component of bone. Serum osteocalcin levels may be negatively correlated with metabolic syndrome. Read-through transcription exists between this gene and the neighboring upstream gene, PMF1 (polyamine-modulated factor 1), but the encoded protein only shows sequence identity with the upstream gene product. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2015]. * **<color #00a2e8>UniProt Summary</color>**: Constitutes 1-2% of the total bone protein. It binds strongly to apatite and calcium. <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='Pfam_Domains'>Pfam Domains</button> <button type='primary' size='sm' modal='GO_terms'>GO Terms</button> <modal id='Pfam_Domains' size='lg' title='Pfam Domains'> |Gla| </modal> <modal id='GO_terms' size='lg' title='GO Terms'> |structural constituent of bone| |hydroxyapatite binding| |response to hydroxyisoflavone| |response to vitamin K| |response to phenylpropanoid| |response to gravity| |cellular response to vitamin D| |osteoblast development| |cellular response to vitamin| |response to vitamin D| |response to testosterone| |regulation of bone resorption| |bone mineralization| |regulation of bone remodeling| |response to zinc ion| |rough endoplasmic reticulum| |cell aging| |response to activity| |regulation of osteoclast differentiation| |cellular response to nutrient| |regulation of cellular response to insulin stimulus| |regulation of tissue remodeling| |regulation of bone mineralization| |response to estrogen| |response to vitamin| |biomineralization| |regulation of biomineralization| |biomineral tissue development| |regulation of biomineral tissue development| |Golgi lumen| |regulation of myeloid leukocyte differentiation| |odontogenesis| |osteoblast differentiation| |response to ethanol| |perikaryon| |vesicle| |response to glucocorticoid| |response to corticosteroid| |regulation of ossification| |structural molecule activity| |response to ketone| |bone development| |response to mechanical stimulus| |endoplasmic reticulum to Golgi vesicle-mediated transport| |response to nutrient| |regulation of myeloid cell differentiation| |response to alcohol| |cellular response to nutrient levels| |ossification| |cellular response to extracellular stimulus| |regulation of leukocyte differentiation| |aging| |endoplasmic reticulum lumen| |response to antibiotic| |response to steroid hormone| |cellular response to external stimulus| |response to metal ion| |Golgi vesicle transport| |dendrite| |regulation of hemopoiesis| |skeletal system development| |response to nutrient levels| |cellular response to growth factor stimulus| |response to toxic substance| |cellular response to lipid| |response to extracellular stimulus| |response to growth factor| |response to inorganic substance| |cellular response to organic cyclic compound| |calcium ion binding| |response to lipid| |response to hormone| |response to organic cyclic compound| |cell adhesion| |biological adhesion| |animal organ morphogenesis| |response to drug| |cellular response to oxygen-containing compound| |response to abiotic stimulus| |response to endogenous stimulus| |intracellular transport| |response to oxygen-containing compound| |extracellular space| |cell development| |regulation of immune system process| |tissue development| |regulation of cell differentiation| |establishment of localization in cell| |extracellular region| |vesicle-mediated transport| </modal> \\ === CRISPR Data === <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Compound_Hit'>Compound Hit</button> <button type='default' size='small' modal='Most_Correlated_Genes'>Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics</button> <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Essential_Avana'>Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)</button> <modal id='Compound_Hit' size='lg' title='Compound Hit'> ^Screen^Score^ |Asunaprenir 3μM R07 exp336|-2| |LB-100 4.1μM R02 exp72|-1.94| |Caffeine 2600μM R08 exp463|2.08| </modal> <modal id='Most_Correlated_Genes' size='lg' title='Most Correlated Genes in Chemogenomics'> No correlation found to any other genes in chemogenomics. </modal> <modal id='Essential_Avana' size='lg' title='Tissues where Essential in the Avana Dataset (DepMap 20Q1)'> Global Fraction of Cell Lines Where Essential: 0/739 ^Tissue^Fraction Of Cell Lines Where Essential^ |1290807.0|0/1| |909776.0|0/1| |bile duct|0/28| |blood|0/28| |bone|0/26| |breast|0/33| |central nervous system|0/56| |cervix|0/4| |colorectal|0/17| |esophagus|0/13| |fibroblast|0/1| |gastric|0/16| |kidney|0/21| |liver|0/20| |lung|0/75| |lymphocyte|0/16| |ovary|0/26| |pancreas|0/24| |peripheral nervous system|0/16| |plasma cell|0/15| |prostate|0/1| |skin|0/24| |soft tissue|0/9| |thyroid|0/2| |upper aerodigestive|0/22| |urinary tract|0/29| |uterus|0/5| </modal> == Essentiality in NALM6 == * **<color #00a2e8>Essentiality Rank</color>**: 13263 * **<color #00a2e8>Expression level (log2 read counts)</color>**: -0.95 <button type='primary' size='small' modal='Dist_expr'>Expression Distribution</button> <modal id='Dist_expr' size='lg' title='BGLAP Expression in NALM6 Cells: -0.95'> </modal> Last modified: 2025/12/10 20:19by 127.0.0.1
