HPSE2

Gene Information
  • Official Symbol: HPSE2
  • Official Name: heparanase 2 (inactive)
  • Aliases and Previous Symbols: N/A
  • Entrez ID: 60495
  • UniProt: Q8WWQ2
  • Interactions: BioGRID
  • PubMed articles: Open PubMed
  • OMIM: Open OMIM
Function Summary
  • Entrez Summary: This gene encodes a heparanase enzyme. The encoded protein is a endoglycosidase that degrades heparin sulfate proteoglycans located on the extracellular matrix and cell surface. This protein may be involved in biological processes involving remodeling of the extracellular matrix including angiogenesis and tumor progression. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009].
  • UniProt Summary: Binds heparin and heparan sulfate with high affinity, but lacks heparanase activity. Inhibits HPSE, possibly by competing for its substrates (in vitro). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:20576607}.
