ST6GAL2

Gene Information
  • Official Symbol: ST6GAL2
  • Official Name: ST6 beta-galactoside alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase 2
  • Aliases and Previous Symbols: N/A
  • Entrez ID: 84620
  • UniProt: Q96JF0
  • Interactions: BioGRID
  • PubMed articles: Open PubMed
  • OMIM: Open OMIM
Function Summary
  • Entrez Summary: This locus encodes a sialyltransferase. The encoded type II transmembrane protein catalyzes the transfer of sialic acid from CMP to an oligosaccharide substrate. Polymorphisms at this locus may be associated with variations in risperidone response in schizophrenic patients. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012].
  • UniProt Summary: Transfers sialic acid from the donor of substrate CMP- sialic acid to galactose containing acceptor substrates. Has alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase activity toward oligosaccharides that have the Gal-beta-1,4-GlcNAc sequence at the non-reducing end of their carbohydrate groups, but it has weak or no activities toward glycoproteins and glycolipids. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12235148}.
