  • Official Name: succinate-CoA ligase GDP-forming subunit beta
  • Aliases and Previous Symbols: N/A
  • Entrez ID: 8801
  • UniProt: Q96I99

Function Summary
  • Entrez Summary: This gene encodes a GTP-specific beta subunit of succinyl-CoA synthetase. Succinyl-CoA synthetase catalyzes the reversible reaction involving the formation of succinyl-CoA and succinate. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Pseudogenes of this gene are found on chromosomes 5 and 12. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2010].
  • UniProt Summary: GTP-specific succinyl-CoA synthetase functions in the citric acid cycle (TCA), coupling the hydrolysis of succinyl-CoA to the synthesis of GTP and thus represents the only step of substrate-level phosphorylation in the TCA. The beta subunit provides nucleotide specificity of the enzyme and binds the substrate succinate, while the binding sites for coenzyme A and phosphate are found in the alpha subunit. {ECO:0000255|HAMAP- Rule:MF_03221}.
