Gene Information
  • Official Symbol: ELP4
  • Official Name: elongator acetyltransferase complex subunit 4
  • Aliases and Previous Symbols: N/A
  • Entrez ID: 26610
  • UniProt: Q96EB1

Function Summary
  • Entrez Summary: This gene encodes a component of the six subunit elongator complex, a histone acetyltransferase complex that associates directly with RNA polymerase II during transcriptional elongation. The human gene can partially complement sensitivity phenotypes of yeast ELP4 deletion mutants. This gene has also been associated with Rolandic epilepsy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2013].
  • UniProt Summary: Acts as subunit of the RNA polymerase II elongator complex, which is a histone acetyltransferase component of the RNA polymerase II (Pol II) holoenzyme and is involved in transcriptional elongation. Elongator may play a role in chromatin remodeling and is involved in acetylation of histones H3 and probably H4. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11714725, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11818576, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16713582}.
